WE WON THE PETFINDER SHELTER CHALLENGE FOR THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND!!!!!!!
We are the #1 shelter in RI, and won $1000!
Thank you to everyone who voted for us!
Any dog we pull is taken from the shelter to the vet for all their shots, heartworm test (if age appropriate), treated for fleas, fecal tested, dewormed, and spay/neuter (is age appropriate). They are also temperament tested, and come with a health certificate. If the dog tests positive for heartworm we will treat them! We are going to get these urgent dogs out of there and set them up to live a healthy, happy life. Any dogs over 6 months of age will be fixed. If for whatever reason your dog can not be spayed/neutered due to time constraints or booking issues HSO will provide the pre-paid certificate for a local vet in your area. All you would need to do is bring them in. Occasionally we have puppies under 6 months that are already fixed, adoption fees will not be higher for these puppies.
Transport can be arranged to any state from Georgia to Vermont. There are central drop off locations so please know that you may need to drive an hour or two in some cases but your new best friend is worth it!
Here's how our fees are broken down - we have made some changes in our vetting and transporting!
Adoption fees vary by dog, but transport is now included in the fee.
$15 - $30 Pull Fee per Dog
$50 Health Certificate (Legal requirement for inter-state travel, require a complete exam and state documentation. This is not passed on to the adopter, we keep it for our records)
$30-$50 Shots
$10-$20 Microchip (depends on what shelter dog comes from, may not be microchipped)
$10-$15 Fecal Testing
$15-$30 Dewormer (we use the BEST dewormers and proactively prevent giardia)
$30+ Heartworm Testing
$90-$150 Spay/Neuter (or certificate) - DOES NOT INCLUDE PUPPIES UNDER 6 MONTHS OF AGE (spay/neuter contract will apply)
$15-$30 External Parasite Control
$400 - $1000 to treat Heartworm if the dog is positive, sometimes more
Please note that many dogs/puppies have worms and are dewormed once or twice prior to transport. You will need to follow up with another deworming. Our suggestion is to bring your dog to the vet within 72 hours of receiving for an exam. Also, the above list is our standard, but some dogs may not receive all these thing or may receive more. It depends on the shelter.
Adopting is a huge responsibility and it needs to be for the life of the animal. Help Save One only will adopt to forever homes and it is mandatory that if a dog needs to be returned it comes back to us. We do not tolerate any of our dogs going into a shelter. We do not rescue them from high kill shelters for them to end up anywhere except loving, forever homes. We take this oath seriously and expect all our adopters to do the same. Adopting should be a lifelong commitment and an exciting experience!
If you have any questions, please drop us an email at: info@helpsaveone.org. Thank you!
If you wish to sponsor a dog, please fill out the "sponsor form" below. When sponsoring a dog, any amount helps - it does not need to cover the entire costs. Please send in the money via paypal before you have sent in the form... it just makes it easier for us to keep track of which dog the money goes to. All donations can be made through the Urgent Dog Fund on the Urgent Dog page. Once the money is sent in, it can NOT be taken back, as it is immediately used to save a dog.
If you wish to foster, please fill out the foster application below. PLEASE ALSO SEND US AN EMAIL TO FOSTERING@HELPSAVEONE.ORG WHEN YOU HAVE FILLED OUT AN APPLICATION. We are having some issues with the applications, and sometimes we are not getting them. PLEASE send an email along with the app, so we can ensure that we do not miss any applications!! You will be notified within 24 hours if you were approved or not, and from there, we will decide which dog will fit into your lifestyle. Arrangements will then be made to get the dog to you on the next available transport. When fostering a dog for us, the foster parent is responsible for food, treats, over the counter meds, etc. We are responsible for all medical care. Any potential adopters must go through our process, and fill out our adoption application and contract. You, as foster parent, are basically responsible for caring for the dog until a forever home can be found. The fostering time period depends on the dog, some dogs require a foster for a few days, and other require a few months. Please be prepared for either, if you wish to foster. You will be responsible for getting the dog to and from transport.
If you wish to adopt, you MUST fill out the adoption application below.
WE ARE NOW REQUIRING A DEPOSIT OF $50 TO PROCESS AN APPLICATION. We have a ton of applications coming in, and people either not being serious about adopting, or never responding once their application is approved. We are working with URGENT dogs, we do not have enough manpower or time to answer emails that are not serious inquiries. We hope that this will help sort this out. PLEASE, when you send in an application, be prepared to adopt immediately! Our dogs are urgent and most will be put down the week they are posted. If you are not ready to adopt right now, please wait until you are ready to adopt to send an application in. If you wish to meet a dog that is already in foster care, you must have an approved application before we can set up a meeting. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE PROCESSED WITHOUT THE $50 DEPOSIT! They will just be deleted.
In the application, there is a space asking for the "confirmation number of your deposit." Please donate $50 through the donate button located above the adoption application, prior to filling out the application. Paypal will give you a confirmation number for your donation... this will go in the "confirmation number" space on the application. PLEASE ALSO SEND US AN EMAIL TO APPLICATIONS@HELPSAVEONE.ORG WHEN YOU HAVE FILLED OUT AN APPLICATION. We are having some issues with the applications, and sometimes we are not getting them. PLEASE send an email along with the app, so we can ensure that we do not miss any applications!!
If you are not approved, your $50 will be returned to you, via paypal, within 48 hours of your denial. If you are approved, your $50 will go towards the adoption fee for the dog. If you are approved, and change your mind about adopting, your $50 deposit is non-refundable. Many rescues use this method, and it works well. We hope this will help people be prepared and serious about adopting prior to filling out an application.
Once the application and deposit are received and approved by us, you will be notified within 48 hours of your approval or denial. If you are denied, your $50 will be refunded within 48 hours. If you are approved, an adoption contract will be sent to you. When the contract is received by us, you will be notified and you must IMMEDIATELY pay your dog's adoption fee. All fee's are to be paid through paypal, on the Pay Fees page. Once money and contract is received, the dog will be pulled and placed in a foster home until the next available transport. Or, if the dog is already in a foster home, the foster parents will be alerted, and the dog will be placed on the next available transport.
To all potential adopters please read the next paragraph carefully:
DO NOT submit an application if you are NOT willing to wait patiently for your dog until they are ready to transport to you. This can be a week, a month, or longer. We DO NOT transport dogs until they are READY to go home. If you are in a rush for a dog/puppy please do not apply with us and we encourage you to look at your local shelter which many times you can take home same day. Our organization rescues dogs that sometimes come from deplorable conditions and we do not release them until they are good and ready. It is about the dog's safety and health and nothing else.
Please do not promise your children transport of their dog on a certain date - there are too many unknowns to do this. Please do not send us emails telling us you sent the adoption fee two weeks ago and you think it is scam because your dog is not here. Please read the contract we send you CAREFULLY before signing it - it has a wealth of information in it. Please research Help Save One before applying.
