Destin - Young Male - Boxer/Am Staff Mix
Destin is one year old, gets along with other dogs, cats unknown, and he only weighs about 20 pounds. He is trained and ready for a home.
From the foster home: This guy is so happy all the time. He wags his tail constantly. Very cute and a real spunky. What a goofball! Loves to be with people. Has been fine with other dogs. Ignores the cats.
His adoption fee is $250, and includes all his vetting.
Chex - Young Male - Chi Mix
A tiny Chi mix that is very scared. Not nippy. Submissive when you go to pick him up. He is barely 10 pounds and that is probably a high guess. He is adorable. He just got off transport so please email for an update if you are interested in adopting Chex. Heart worm positive and has started treatment. Up to date on shots. 3 years old.
Chex's adoption fee is $275.00 plus a $50 refundable neuter fee that will be refunded when proof of neuter is provided to Help Save One.
Coco - Young Female - Miniature Pinscher Mix
Coco is a sweet girl who was an owner surrender to the shelter. Her owners claimed that she was a Min Pin mix, though she's only 9 pounds, so she's tiny! She's about a year old, still a baby. She's a sweetheart!!
From the transporter: CoCo can be very scared of loud noises and most everything. I would guess she was never socialized but young enough to teach. She does not like to be crated and can get nippy. Would be best in a home with no young children. Once she gets used to you she does not want to leave your side. Loves to be carried and on your lap. Can everyone say Diva! I doubt she is even 9 pounds - tiny. The new picture is ok but much cuter.
Coco's adoption fee is $275 and includes all her vetting.
Bunny - Young Female - Splash Boston Terrier - PENDING ADOPTION
What a gorgeous girl! Bunny is a purebred Boston, but she is what's known as a Splash Boston, which means she is mostly white with black/brindle splotches. She's gorgeous!! She's great with other dogs and kids, and untested with cats. She is 2 years old.
From the foster home: Bunny is an absolute love. The new picture shows a few scratches on her nose from transport but they will heal just fine. She just got in my door when this was taken so give her a break. You wouldn't look your best either. Loves to be with you and is very endearing. If I didn't have 5 already I would adopt her at the drop of a hat. Probably about 20 lbs or less.
Bunny's adoption fee is $350 and includes all her vetting.
Lola - Young Female - Pit/Lab Mix
Lola is about a year old, weighs 40 pounds, and her foster mom said she gets along with dogs and cats and is very sweet. She also said she was a complete goofball. Lola lives harmoniously with Patsy (the other black pit on website) and cats.
Lola's adoption fee is $175 and includes all her vetting.
Charlie - Senior Male - Dachshund Mix
Charlie is 9 years old and came to us from a gassing shelter in North Carolina. He has checked out healthy at the vet but he does growl but does not bite. Charlie will bear his teeth at you but after seeing a trainer they feel it is due to abuse he suffered prior to coming into Help Save One. He is more relaxed now and not as nervous but will always have the trait in his personality.
Charlie is in a foster home who accepts him for who he is. Charlie really can go into a forever home but they need to be understanding. He is a small, scared dog and should not be with children as any sudden movements and too much commotion make Charlie nervous.
Charlie deserves a life - he is not the dog for everyone but there is certainly someone out there for Charlie.
Charlie's adoption fee is $150 and includes all his vetting.
Shelby - Young Female - Hound Mix - Pending Adoption
Shelby weighs 40lbs and the vet says she is under two years old and a hound mix. She is fully house trained and loves to ride in the car. She comes when called for the most part and does very well with other dogs. She will chase the cat to corner it and the game ends there as she nor the cat know what the next step is supposed to be! She would never hurt them. Shelby loves to play catch and will play as long as you can. She likes noisy toys and balls of all sizes. Shelby needs to be on you at all times you are sitting still. If she can not be laying on you, she at least needs to put a paw on you. She is great with kids, but does not like yelling or whining. She seems scared if you yell at her at stops and lays upside down on the ground (like she had been abused before and she thinks if you yell at her then more bad will follow). Shelby is working on learning to stay down as she is jumpy, I believe that goes along with her needing to be near you. She has free roam of our land and is only on a leash when at the vets, so she may need work in that area also. She will be fully healed from her spaying and ready for her forever home after Sept 12th.
Shelby’s adoption fee is $175, and includes all her vetting.
Sherrol - Senior Male - Boston Terrier
What a cutie! Sherrol, if you can believe it, is 10 years old! He's in excellent condition for his age, and is a happy, healthy little man. Sherrol's story is a sad one. His owners dropped him at the shelter at ten, and said that they had allergies. When asked when they got him... they replied 8 weeks. So they had him from the time he was 8 weeks, to the time he was 10 years old, and then suddenly got allergies. The shelter believed that they had gotten a new puppy, and dumped Sherrol. Poor boy!
Sherrol's adoption fee is $175, and includes all his vetting.
Wanda - Adult Female - Terrier Mix
Look at that face. How can you resist that?! This cutie is some type of Terrier mix. She is 2-3 years old and good with everyone. She weighs around 40 pounds. This is an older picture of her but she has only gotten cuter!
Adoption fee is $200 and includes all her vetting.
Puzzle - Young Male - Jack Russel Terrier/Daschund Mix
Puzzle is the adorable little black and white pup on the right in the picture. We believe he is a JRT/Daschund mix, but cannot be sure. This is his shelter photo, we will update as soon as we get a better picture. Puzzle is fine with other dogs, and loves everyone.
Puzzle's adoption fee is $200, and includes all his vetting.
Blue Princess - Adult Female - Pit Bull Terrier
Blue Princess is a wonderful dog and is looking for a home again. We thought we had her adopted but the couple canceled their adoption (no fault of Blue). We know Blue will find the right home as she is a wonderful girl.
Blue gets along with other dogs and does not mind cats. She has lived harmoniously with dogs, cats, and kids. She will make someone a wonderful companion and will be a great addition to any family.
Blue Princess is house trained, crate trained, and can walk on a leash. She is a smaller size dog weighing only between 35 and 40 pounds.
Blue Princess's adoption fee is $250 and includes all her vetting.
Blue is young (only about 3 years) so you all hopefully can have a long life together!
The photo above is of her getting off transport to give you an idea of size.
Bear - Adult Male - Long Haired Mini Dachshund
Look at this cutie! Bear is a 3 year old long haired mini doxie who weighs just 10 pounds! He is very friendly.
His adoption fee is $200 and includes all his vetting.
Brooke - Senior Female - Daschund Mix
Brooke in her foster home just chillin'
Brooke is a sweet little lady! She is about 14 pounds and 8 years old. She looks like she is a doxie mix. She is very friendly, and has some mild flea allergies which will clear up.
Brooke's adoption fee is $150 and includes all her vetting.
Cocoa - Senior Female - Cocker Spaniel
Oh man, we LOVE Cocoa. This little gem ran around with the dinosaurs when she was a kid. Cocoa is a 14 year old Cocker Spaniel who is a DOLL. Right now she is in a foster home relaxing - her favorite thing to do is sleep. She is also working on getting her girlish figure back. Cocoa was a whooping FORTY THREE pounds when she was turned into the shelter.
Her foster mom will keep her for as long as it takes to get her adopted, or if she never gets adopted she has her home as a safe, loving place. We think Cocoa will most likely just be with Help Save One and live out her life in a foster home which is OK but perhaps someone would like to have Cocoa as their own. We think she may have another few good quality years left.
Cocoa is vision impaired but not blind. She is very loving and there is not a mean bone in her entire body. Cocoa's adoption fee is $150 and she is spayed, UTD on shots, front-lined, and micro-chipped. She even comes with 30 days of prepaid pet insurance.
If there was one dog in this rescue that represents the dogs Help Save One absolutely loves it is Cocoa. We live to rescue dogs like this who still have a good quality of life but are passed over by most.
Cocoa's Shelter Photo
Buddy - Adult Male - German Shepherd Mix
Buddy is approximately 3 years old, around 40 lbs soaking wet, and can be considered a medium sized dog. We believe he is a Shepherd/Carolina dog/Chow mix (a few small black spots on his tongue), but we refer to him as our Dingo Dog. All Buddy wants is love, plain and simple. He melts into your lap as soon as you sit down with him and he'll snuggle with you for hours. If you're lucky he may even shell out a few kisses!
He has a considerable amount of energy, but is fine when left alone. He'd do great as a running or hiking companion. Buddy is about 95% house trained, and lets you know when he needs to go out. We are working on his manners and he knows sit, down, and stay (when exiting a car). He would greatly benefit from positively-reinforced training classes, he's a very smart dog and catches on quickly. Buddy would do best in a home with older children (as he does tend to jump when he gets too excited!). He likes to chase our cat throughout the house (poor Ollie!), so a home without cats would probably be best for Buddy. He must go to a home without male dogs as he has shown signs of aggression (dominance and territory issues). He has NEVER shown signs of aggression with food, when we have clipped his nails, played with his ears or checked out his teeth. He is a wonderful dog who deserves an equally wonderful home.
Buddy's adoption fee is $250 and includes his vetting.
Snowball - Adult Female - Bichon Frise
Snowball has been in our rescue for a year now and is a very gentle, although very traumatized puppy mill survivor. She is around 5 years old and reminds me alot of my puppy mill pug named Reba. Snowball does not like alot of commotion or noise and will never be a cuddly dog but she needs an owner who understands PM survivors and lets Snowball live life on HER terms.
Snowball would do best in an all female home with NO kids. She is not aggressive but needs a quiet environment. Perhaps a retiree or, again, someone who is knowledgeable on what a puppy mill survivor needs.
Snowball has lived in a wonderful home with her foster and has made leaps and bounds but she will never be what we would consider a "normal dog". She is much like an abused child who will always carry the emotional scars of what she has endured.
Please note, Snowball is now ready to be spayed and has just horrible teeth and needs a good dental. This cost will be $500. Can you help give this puppy mill survivor what she so desperately needs before adoption? If you can help please click on the donate button at the top of this page and note "Snowball".
Snowball's foster mom is having to move from her home into a smaller place and no longer will be able to keep Snowball as a foster since she has 3 dogs of her own already. We REALLY need a knowledgeable foster who can care for Snowball. Puppy mill survivors just need alot of time and understanding - they have the same needs as any other dog though. Please consider fostering or adopting Snowball.
Adoption donation $150.
Merry - Senior Female - Australian Shepherd -ADOPTED!
Merry's Shelter Photo
Look at this sweet old girl. She's around 8 years old, and 45 pounds. She's great with other dogs.
Below are two pictures after a visit to the groomers. What an absolute beauty.
Her adoption fee is $150.00 and includes all her vetting.
Petunia - Young Female - Pekingese
Petunia is another adorable smushy faced Peke!! She is around 2 years old and weighs 18 pounds. She came in with two other Peke's and a lab puppy. She is great with other dogs, fine with kids and cats.
Her adoption fee is $300 and includes all her vetting.
Meg - Senior Female - Boston Terrier - Special Needs, Blind - Pending Adoption
Meg was sent to us by a wonderful rescue coordinator in SC. Meg was dropped off with a senior Chihuahua, Pumpkin by their owner. The owner could not care for them anymore so she wanted them euthanized. What?!!
Meg is a 12 year old blind Boston Terrier who is a total love bug. You do not even know she is in the house! She is fine with being picked up and loves being with people. Can you open your heart and home to a senior? There is NOTHING like a senior dog - once you care for one you will fall in love and never be the same!
Meg's adoption fee is $150 and she is UTD on shots, spayed, front-lined, and micro-chipped. We do require Boston Terrier knowledge if you are to adopt her. Boston's need air conditioning both in the home and in the car and they must be kept indoors.
We know in reality Meg may never find that forever home. We would love someone to offer to foster Meg if possible. She is in a foster home right now but her foster mom has many other seniors and special needs cases and Meg would need to be moved soon.
Pumpkin - Senior Female - Chihuahua
Pumpkin is SO much cuter than the picture! She is a 9 year old tan and cream colored chihuahua who is very friendly. She is fine with being picked up and loves being with people. She is somewhat nervous until she gets comfortable with you which only takes a little time. She gets along fine with other dogs and cats. She loves to be held and be your buddy. She also has the softest coat, so nice for petting!!
PLEASE CONSIDER THIS LADY....SHE REALLY WANTS AND NEEDS SOMEONE TO BOSS AROUND! AND TO BE LOVED AND LOVE IN RETURN.
Pumpkin's adoption fee is $150 and she is UTD on shots, spayed, front-lined, and micro-chipped.
Peaches - Senior Female - Cocker Spaniel
Meet Peaches - she came to us from a high volume kill shelter in South Carolina. Peaches is 9 years old and still have tons of living left to do. When she came to us she was depressed, matted, and not feeling so well. Since that time Peaches has seen the vet and is loving life a lot more now. She also has a brand new hairstyle that is a huge improvement over the matted mess she was.
Peaches is in a foster home where she lives harmoniously with other dogs and cats. It would be nice if Peaches could have a home to call "hers" - a forever home where she can live out her golden years. She is incontinent and needs crating or diapering some of the time. She just started on new medicine to help curb the incontinence. Please consider Peaches she wants to have a home so bad. Very friendly. Prefers a quiet space.
Peaches adoption fee is $150 and she is UTD on shots, spayed, frontlined, and microchipped. Peaches even comes with 30 days of prepaid pet insurance.
Mama - Adult Female - Boxer/Terrier Mix
Mama is such a nice girl. She was rescued from Gaston county shelter moments before she was to be gassed. We also took in her 1 week old puppies at that time as well. Mama has been in the rescue for 4 months now (as of July 2010) and it would be nice to see her in a home. She loves people and she gets along with other dogs as well.
Mama is house trained, crate trained, and does really well with anyone she meets. Can someone give Mama the chance she needs at a forever home?
Mama's adoption fee is $100 and includes all her vetting.
Mirror - Adult Female - Pug/Dachshund Mix
Based on the advice of their foster home, we have decided that Mirror and Image would do best if adopted separately. They do love each other, but we think that they are too reliant on each other, and would open up and flourish if apart.
Mirror is a nice girl and is 7 years old. Its time she knows what a real home is. Mirror is friendly and will make a great companion for someone. She is no trouble, does not bark, and is very laid back. The shelter estimates sh had at least e10-15 litters in her lifetime.
This girl is SUPER CUTE and SMALLER than the pictures may indicate. She is also on the shy side. The transporter fell madly in love with both Mirror and Image, they just light up the room (car)!
Mirror's adoption fee is $175, and includes all her vetting.
Image - Adult Female - Pug/Dachshund Mix
Based on the advice of their foster home, we have decided that Mirror and Image would do best if adopted separately. They do love each other, but we think that they are too reliant on each other, and would open up and flourish if apart.
Image is a sweetheart and is 6 years old. It's time she knows what a real home is, as she was used as a breeder dog, and had never known affection until we saved her. She is friendly and will make a great companion for someone. She is no trouble, does not bark, and is very laid back. The shelter estimates she had at least e10-15 litters in her lifetime.
This girl is SUPER CUTE and SMALLER than the pictures may indicate. She is also on the shy side. The transporter fell madly in love with both Mirror and Image, they just light up the room (car)!
Image's adoption fee is $175, and includes all her vetting.
Alice - Adult Female - Dalmation/Shepherd Mix -Special Needs, Deaf
Alice is a young friendly girl and is special needs as she is deaf. Alice is a cross between a Dalmation and a Shepherd and is ready for her new home. Do you have room in your heart and home for a special needs lady?
Her adoption fee is $150 and includes all her vetting. Experience with deaf dogs preferred and no young children please.
This adorable pair is Beezus and Ramona, who are a bonded pair. They are about 5- 6 years old and have been raised together. Beezus and Ramona are super sweet and would benefit from a quiet home where they can relax and enjoy themselves. Both girls have all their fur and a gorgeous coat now!
They must be adopted together. Their adoption fee is $375 for them both and includes all of their vetting.
Andy - Adult Male - Pitbull Terrier -NEEDS FOSTER IN NEW ENGLAND AREA
Pictures do not do justice to Andy. It’s impossible to capture his good looks in a picture!
He almost did not make it out of the shelter. Some nice lady sponsored him and we were able to take him in. What a little love. Isn't he gorgeous? Andy gets along with others and with people. He has great markings and is very handsome! And yes, he has one blue eye!
His adoption fee is $150 and includes all his vetting.
Sugar - Adult Female - Pekingese
Sugar came to us with some severe flea allergies, and a lot of missing fur. She had infections on 95% of her body! Thankfully, Sugar is all healed up, and a lot of her fur has grown back. Sugar still has some bare patches and she may never have 100% of her fur back, but what she lacks in fur she makes up for in personality! Sugar is a total lovebug. She LOVES people! She wants to be in your lap all the time, and is just a little peanut of a lovey.
Sugar does not get along with female dogs, but is fine with males. She is also fine with cats.
Her adoption fee is $150 and includes all her extensive vetting.
Rufis - Adult Male - German Shepherd Mix
Look at that great big grin! What a happy boy! Rufis is a German Shepherd mix dog and is very friendly. He has not found his forever home yet and is sooooo ready for that special someone to take him in as their companion. Rufis does well with other dogs and all people and would be a great addition to a home.
Rufis comes from a gassing shelter in North Carolina and we are so happy we pulled him. He is a doll.
His adoption fee is $150 and includes all his vetting.
Honey - Adult Female - Akita/Labrador Mix
Honey is an Akita/Lab mix that came from a gassing shelter in Ohio. She is a bigger girl weighing around 55 pounds and she does well with people, LOVES kids, and is great with other animals.
Honey does well in her foster home and is ready for that special forever home.
Adoption fee is $150 and includes all her vetting.
Wrinkles - Adult Female - Chihuahua Mix
Wrinkles is an adorable Chihuahua mix who has demodex (non contagious mange) - we need to get her through this and wait for her fur to grow back along with two negative skin scrapings before releasing her but please consider Wrinkles!
She will be ready sometime in August 2010. She is doing great and now that she is feeling better will be spayed before adoption.
UPDATE from her foster home - 7/5/2010:
When we first got Wrinkles she was horrific. She was covered in open sores and had almost no hair. She cowered in the back of her crate and rolled her lips and snapped at anyone who came near her. My kids were grossed out and scared of her. Honestly, I didn't see how we were going to be able to keep her.
We started by feeding her and talking kindly to her. After about a day she stopped cowering. While the kids and our dog were out of the house I opened the crate door. She eventually came out but would not come near me. With hours of sweet talk she eventually let me pet her. That led to a bath, play time with squeaky toys, treats and a dog who would follow me to the ends of the earth! It was a slow process, but now she is just the sweetest, most amazing little dog. She is fully potty and crate trained. She requires absolutely no discipline. She walks beautifully on a leash but also stays with you off leash. She comes and sits and we're working on down and stay, although I don't think she'll ever get it! She has become good friends with our boxer, although I think she would be best as an only pet. She doesn't like to share the loving. She probably would be best in a cat-free home because she chases ours. She shows typical Chi behaviors - she is highly loyal and wants nothing more than to follow me around and snuggle. She shows aggression with other dogs no matter what size, but will curb it if reprimanded. Wrinkles will need couch privileges because there's no way she's not going to snuggle up to her owner.
This dog has taught all of us the value of rescuing. We judged a book by a cover and thought she wasn't worth saving. Now we all love Wrinkles - she's even ingratiated herself to my husband who is not a small dog fan! We all learned that giving isn't always pretty and it isn't always easy.
Wrinkles will make someone a terrific companion, no doubt, and we'll sorely miss her when she goes!
Wrinkles adoption fee is $150 and includes all her extensive vetting.
Jake (formerly Scooby) - Adult Male - Great Dane/Australian Shepherd Mix
This beautiful dog was given up with his sibling (Scrappy) by the owner due to unforseen circumstances. Scoobys mom is a purebred Great Dane (blue in color) and the father is a purebred Australian Shepherd (red in color). Scooby is about 110 pounds and is a really great dog. He is great with other dogs.
Please consider Scooby - he is a big boy with a big heart!
Adoption fee $200 and includes all his vetting.
Scrappy - Adult Male - Great Dane/Australian Shepherd Mix
Scrappy's story is the same as his brother Scooby's. Scrappy is an all black/bluish color and is bigger than his brother weighing in at approx 110 pounds. We have discovered that Scrappy is only cat aggressive, and is great with other dogs. He will need an experienced handler.
Scrappy's adoption fee is $200 and includes all vetting.
Trina - Adult Female - Boxer/Lab Mix - Special Needs, 3 Legs! -NEEDS FOSTER IN NH AREA
Update 7/2/10 - Trina is doing very well and the foster has communicated she has seen no issues with other dogs both male or female. As you can see in her photo - Trina loves kids.
Trina is affectionately what we refer to as a "tripod" as she only has 3 legs but does just fine. She is a really nice dog and her only little issue is she gets a little sassy with other female dogs when they first meet. It might be best if you own a male dog, or better yet, Trina would not mind being an only dog.
Trina is about 5 years old and does well with kids, adults, and other dogs (except females).
Adoption fee is $150 and includes all her vetting.
Daddy - Adult Male - Terrier Mix
Daddy is a great dog and has been through A LOT. He was dumped at a gassing shelter when the breeder he was being used by was "getting out of the business". We rescued Daddy and 5 other dogs this same breeder got rid of. They are all great dogs and only Daddy and 2 others are left to place out of the group.
Daddy likes people and other dogs. We are not sure how he is with cats. Daddy would be great for any family!
Daddy's adoption fee is $200 and includes all his vetting.
Darla - Adult Female - Beagle Mix
Darla was a terrified, almost feral dog, when we received her and her two scared pups. You could not even touch Darla without her shaking and backing herself into a corner.
We were advised by the last person caring for her to possibly put her down. We switched her over to a new foster home and look at what a difference a person can make in the life of a dog. Darla is now a happy dog who plays, barks, and wants attention.
Darla is ready to start her new life with a forever home! Adoption fee is $150 and includes all her vetting.
Molly is a small girl weighing only around 35 pounds. She is absolutely adorable in person and she likes other dogs and people. She is also fine with cats.
Molly was a stray in South Carolina and was found without her puppies but it was clear she had very recently given birth. This sad little girl is now in a stable foster home where she gets alot of love. She has come a long way but can show signs of fear aggression. Knowing how to handle abused dogs is key and experienced owners only will be considered for adopting this girl.
She is by no means a "bad" dog. She just has some issues from the way she was treated. Most likely someone who was familiar with puppy mill dogs would be a good fit as well. As a side note, her ears are horribly cropped. Someone basically cut them off.
Molly's adoption fee is $150 and includes all her vetting.
Patsy - Adult Female - Lab/Pitbull Mix
Patsy is a great girl and just a pleasure to have in the rescue. Her foster mom absolutely loves her. She is about a year and a half old. She's great with other dogs and fine with cats. She really is looking for her forever home. Could that be you?
Adoption fee is $150 and includes all her vetting.
Peanut - Adult Male - Lab/Terrier Mix
This is Peanut! He is a little firecracker of a dog who is smaller in size and would make a great companion for a family or a single person who is active.
Sweet as can be Peanut is, and we have no idea how he ended up in a shelter. Peanut CAN NOT be in a home with cats, but is ok with dogs.
I need a home... please consider me for your best friend. Peanut's adoption donation is $150 and includes all his vetting.
Sally - Young Female - Purebred Siberian Husky
Sally is a wonderful girl who has a sad history. She was a chained up dog and a victim of cruelty that ultimately led her to us.
In January of 2010 Sally was chained up to a tree and gave birth to a litter of puppies, half of which died from the bitter cold. Her owner did not even know she had the litter. Her remaining puppies were adopted into amazing homes, and now Sally is looking for one of her own. Meghan, our VP, gave her the name Salvation, which has since been shortened to Sally.
Since coming into our rescue Sally has flourished with the help of her incredible foster mom. She is going to need someone who has breed knowledge but also someone who does not have cats!
If you are a Husky rescue we would be willing to work to get Sally into your rescue or if anyone would like to adopt her she is a wonderful girl. She just has some boundaries that need to be worked with.
Sally's adoption fee is $200 and includes all her vetting.
Rocko - Young Male - Pug Mix
Rocko is a young Pug mix. He is about 3 years old and was HW positive when we got him. He is now finished his treatment and will be ready for a new home in about 3 weeks. Lives with kids and other dogs and does fine.
Rocko's adoption fee is $200 and includes all his vetting.
Davis - Adult Male - Lab/Shepherd Mix
This sweet boy is the black pup on the right of the picture. He is a good boy who loves other dogs, and is fine with all people. He is untested with cats. Can anyone make some room in their home for this boy? He just wants love! He is around 2 years old.
Davis's adoption fee is $150 and includes all his vetting.
Maple - Adult Female - Shepherd Mix
Maple is a smaller size girl who we rescued from a Georgia shelter. She had given birth to 12 puppies and was a great mom. Her 12 are now 8 weeks old and ready to go to their homes. We want the same for Maple. She deserves to be in a home too.
Can you consider Maple?
Maple's adoption fee is $150 and includes all her vetting.
Abby - Adult Female - Boston Terrier/Boxer Mix
Abby is a really good kid. She came to us as a emotionally despondent after losing all her puppies, suffering from mange, and heartworm. She did not wag her tail or bark or anything.
She has completely come out of her shell in her foster home. She is now a vibrant, playful dog who has over come the worst that life had to offer and is now enjoying the good times.
Abby is currently being treated for her heartworm and will be ready to go to her new home in about 3 weeks. Her adoption fee is $200 which includes all her vetting.
The first picture below, all the way to the left, was Abby's shelter photo... look at the amazing difference!
Gizzy (formerly Smash) - Young Male - Chihuahua Mix - ADOPTED!
Remember Smash? He was the small dog who was hit by a car and was a little "dazed and confused" at the shelter! This poor bean also had a broken tail. Help Save One took Smash in and he is doing remarkably better!
There is no neurological damage and Smash's tail is also on the mend. He is a really sweet boy who has even learned to live with cats!
When we seen no one took Smash from the shelter we tentatively raised our hand and said "we'll take him". We were nervous about his condition but luckily it has all worked out in Smash's favor.
UPDATE 7/27/10: Gizzy is great! He is housebroken now and of course, neutered as well. Since we work from home we are able to take him for a potty break every few hours (3-4) and he hasn't made a mistake. He goes through the night just fine and no longer needs to sleep in a crate. I'm sure Gizzy would love to sleep in our bed but for now he is content to sleep on the floor in his own doggy bed. He is getting along well with our 45 lb dog and they rough-house/play inside our home. Outside is a different matter... our dog is too exuberant and rough so he prefers to keep away from her when outdoors. The little guy loves traveling in vehicles. If there happens to be any folks that full time travel in their RV/motorhome and want a traveling companion then Gizzy is the dog for the job! Full time professional trucker? Look to Gizzy! Also, he has learned a few commands: sit, down and come when called. Gets along great with Nod, our cat. They sometimes share the same doggy bed. I have seen Gizzy giving Nod lots of kisses on his face. He is simply a friendly, lovely and sweet natured little boy and at just one year old has plenty of years ahead to share with his forever home. Oh, almost forgot to mention that he has no fear of horses and no desire to chase them either.
UPDATE 6/23/10: He's doing well and adjusting nicely to life here in our home. We call him Gizzy and he's learning to come to his name. He's such a sweet dog with some very quirky habits. Odd things freak him out and send him into a panic that can last for many hours. We had an electrical storm last week and although the thunder didn't seem to bother him (that I could tell) when the power went out he simply "lost it" and hid. It took us about an hour to find his hiding spot... deep inside a closet. We coaxed him out but he was a neurotic mess until the next morning. Another quirky thing is his attachment to vehicles. He wants desperately to get into any vehicle when we walk by. Sometimes, if its cool and raining we let him sleep inside the truck or van for a few hours. Its his refuge, he's truly "at home" when curled up on a seat. Of course, he's a delightful passenger and never a bother at all. Likes to peek out the window when we go for a drive but soon curls up in a ball for the remainder of the trip.
Here is what Smash's foster mom had to say about him:
Smash is an extremely smart little guy. Yes, he does bark at cats and will chase them if given the opportunity but, he will quickly stop barking if disciplined with "no bark!". This little guy will have no trouble learning commands and I predict him to be a star pupil in obedience school. I don't feel that he is an excessive barker and I haven't heard him howl yet.
Smash loves soft stuffed animal type dog toys, especially ones that squeak. He will shake them and run around in little circles. He also likes to instigate games of chase with us. Its funny to watch him play, its almost like he didn't really know how and is now learning. Rawhide chews are high on his list of good things in life.
Dislikes: Dogs bigger than him. I think he must of been picked on by larger dogs at some point in his short life. My dog Raven is very high energy levels and scares the living daylight out of him.
The perfect home for him will have dogs his size or smaller or maybe even an only dog scenario. He LOVES people. Although he's not a lap dog he wants to curl up next to you very, very close while you scratch and love on him. He gives gentle nuzzles to your face that are quite endearing. He still needs a little work on housebreaking. He understands the whole idea and "tells" you he needs out but if you don't pay attention to his cues then he will pee. In the seven days we've had him he's made two potty mistakes.
Smash's adoption fee is $200 and that includes all shots, neuter (we will get this done prior to adoption as he could not undergo anesthesia until he was healed), microchip, frontline, and 30 days of prepaid pet insurance!
Below is Smash's shelter photo. We think he looks much better now - wouldn't you say!

Poppy - Young Male - Terrier/Heeler Mix
Poppy is a great dog and here is what his foster mom has to say about him:
Poppy is a very sweet dog. He DOES NOT jump on people or children no matter how excited he is. He listens very well and is extremely food motivated, which is good because he didn't have any manners when he came to me.
We are learning fast and know sit, down, and relax. He walks nicely on leash. He doesn't he even notice my cats and does very well with my two dogs and my daughter. He is fearful of unfamiliar things (like hats, cars, pretty much everything) and loud noises, he does trust us already so he looks to us for comfort when he is nervous. He does well in his crate ( we don't shut the door) but he is blocked off in my kitchen we we leave and he goes into his crate with one of his bones and waits patiently.
He is housebroken and he is currently 45 pounds and is about 7-10 pounds underweight so he is a large guy. Overall he is a pleasure to have, and with manners and a new hair coat I think he will be amazing.
Poppy does suffer from a condition called generalized demodex mange (NON CONTAGIOUS) and will most likely be on daily meds. They are inexpensive and other than that Poppy is just like any other dog.
Poppy is neutered, UTD on shots, and is on flea/tick prevention. His fee is $150.
Halden - Adult Male - Lab/Shepherd Mix -NEEDS FOSTER IN CT AREA
Halden is a gorgeous male dog who is 2 years old and weighs about 55 pounds. He is somewhat skittish and needs extra TLC, stability, and patience. I would not suggest him with young children due to the fact that he is skittish and children may frighten him or make him nervous.
He is listed as a Lab/Shepherd mix but he looks like he might have Husky in there too. Halden really needs a good home or a foster. Can you help? Halden's adoption donation is $150 and that includes his vetting. We just really need Halden to get into a good home!
Doug - Adult Male - Boxer/Shepherd Mix
Meet Doug E. Fresh. Doug enjoys long walks through the neighborhood, giving kisses, and playing with his foster brother, Hank.
Doug was saved by an independent rescuer, and was living on a farm in Georgia. Unfortunately, that was only a temporary placement, until something better came along. He is now living with us in foster care, but desperately needs to find his Forever Home.
He is a young lively boy, chock full of energy, so he will need lots of exercise!! He knows "sit" and "down", but takes some persuading to "stay". He is doing well in the house as far as potty training, though he has had a few bad moments. We are working on this with him.
Doug is quite the snuggle bug, and loves to have your undivided attention. He is just fine sharing his home with a 7 year old…in fact, she's just one more person he can convince to pet him. He doesn't seem to have any food aggression issues, and is willing to share his bone.
He can be a little timid when meeting new people, but it doesn't take him long to warm up. He also is a bit jumpy and scared at times, but with a little love he is able to relax. He hasn't been very vocal so far, but I'm sure he could be coaxed.
Doug is fully vetted and neutered.
Doug's adoption donation is $150 and includes all his vetting.
Big Bertha - Female - Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix
Of all the dogs in Help Save One, Big Bertha tugs at my heart the most. I think the reason for this is because she has still not found her niche, her forever home, and "her place" in this world.
Bertha came to us from a kill shelter in TN. They told us she was a Cattle Dog. She is not. Bertha is an Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. So of course she has the stigma of the breed working against her. Bertha was adopted out twice by people who swore they understood her and then promptly returned her. Rejected twice and she knows it.
Her one constant is her foster mom. She loves her foster mom who always is there for her. Bertha tries SO hard but she has no idea of her own size or how her rough playing bothers other dogs. She spent the first year in our rescue making good strides but still segregated from other dogs.
One day last month Bertha slipped into the back yard with the other dogs and she found a friend. His name was Jason. He was the first dog who she did not fight with. They played for four hours. A few days later Jason was adopted and left Bertha behind.
Bertha is a sad dog because she pines to be in a place where she can be an only dog or with that one special dog she can get along with. Regardless of what some people might say - dogs absolutely understand exclusion. Bertha HAS to be excluded and segregated because she can hurt another dog. She has made LEAPS and BOUNDS but she is still a big dog who has a certain set of quirks that even with much training still need to be worked on.
If you are interested in adopting or fostering Bertha please contact us for an application and a meet and greet.
Adoption donation $150 and includes all her vetting.
