Shawn - Neglected and Abused!
This puppy is local to Rhode Island and we have agreed to try to help. We were contacted by a young lady who witnessed this dog neglect. She contacted us last night when she convinced the owner to hand him over. The lady does not have the resources for what this dog needs and Shawn was handed over to her in the condition you see in the photo. He has lost about 80% of his fur, is bleeding, and his paws are swollen. He has a double ear infection and is unaltered.
We have already contacted RISPCA for advice and the situation has been properly reported to those who need to know this dogs condition. RISPCA has offered the medication this dog needs at their cost if it turns out to be what we think it is - sarcoptic mange. The long and the short of it is this dog needs help. He could have secondary skin infections and also needs to be neutered. I am sure his owner never bothered to vaccinate him either.
If you are a rescue and can take him in please contact us at info@helpsaveone.org. If you like to help with his vet bills that we are committing to please use the urgent fund above but PLEASE PLEASE specify SHAWN in the note section, otherwise it gets applied across all the urgent dogs.
Shawn is scheduled tomorrow at Povar Animal Hospital at 2:30PM and we will post an update after his initial visit. Hopefully tomorrow we can get an entire exam and work up done to see exactly what is going on with him.
I do not know how someone lets their companion get in this condition. We hear he was crated 24/7 and never given any attention and he is only 16 weeks old. Its a shame. The lady who has him now is the first person to ever show him compassion and love.
Pearl Needed Eye Surgery
This is a courtesy posting for Jillian whose pug puppy Pearl is currently staying at an emergency vet waiting for surgery.
Pearl's eye was removed when she was 4 weeks old due to a genetic defect. the lid was sewn shut and she had experienced no issue until now. Pearl's eye in a matter of an hour appeared as if it had a golf ball under the lid. She was rushed to the EV where her prognosis was surgery.
Jillian is a good person who tries to help rescue dogs as much as possible, she was on transport when Pearl got sick and this has been very difficult. Pearl's surgery is scheduled for Friday morning.
If you like to help please click on the Chip In Below. You can donate directly to the hospital as well -- Pearl is at New England Animal Medical Center in West Bridgewater MA and their number is 508-580-2515. Pearl is Jillians dog is under "Jillian LeBarnes".
With your kind donations we raised $405 for Pearl through our Chip in and people donated directly to the hospital as well. Pearl got her surgery and is recovering nicely! $190 has been turned over to Jillian so far and the other $220 will go to her once it clears.
From this point forward if you like to donate to Pearl please contact Jillian directly at Jillyjewls@yahoo.com and she can give you her information.

I'm a 16 week old American Bulldog who is thee smartest, most lovable, and loyal dog you will ever meet!
My dad is trying his very best to get me trained so we can have a ton of fun out in the world, but unfortunately due to something in my genes I was born deaf :( Its not a big deal because LOTS of dogs are deaf!! Some are old and have lost their hearing, but many others who look like me with white fur and blue eyes are born this way.
My Dad says that since there are still only a few thousand of us born each year that it makes me extra special!!He is working extra hard with me so I can learn things like "Sit" and "stay" but I get distracted easily cause I am just a puppy and I want to see and play with EVERYTHING!!!
To help get my attention when its really important they have things like this doggie pager! It is a collar that goes around my neck with something that vibrates, so whenever it does I know to look at my dad to see what he is trying to tell me with his hands!!
It is really cool but it is a little expensive so my dad says I am going to have to wait a little while :( I just dont want him to think I am not trying my best to be a good boy!! He says its OK and I will learn soon enough but I really want to make him happy because he is super nice to me and if he didn't take me home with him I might have gone home with someone who didn't know I couldn't hear and would just yell and maybe hit me :(
Lots of deaf dogs get abandoned because people cant handle them, not NOPE! Not me!! Cause my Dad loves me and we get along great!! :)
Two American Eskimos - Need Help!
These two American Eskimos are from the Georgia area and need vet care. We are wanting to take them into our rescue but they need alot of work before being adoptable. Both need to be altered and both are high heartworm positive. Not to mention they need updating on shots and a good grooming. We can get them vetted where they are much cheaper than trying to do it up here but it will still cost about $850 for everything (including heartworm treatment for both).
Its a real shame these dogs ended up this way. Please help by using the Chip In below....every $1 helps!
The Kelm Dogs - 4 Dogs lost their owners, and need to stay together!
ABOUT THE KELM DOGS…
This past Labor Day, my aunt and uncle (Sue and Mike Kelm), were doing something they both loved…riding Mike’s motorcycle. Mike was a longtime, cautious rider and frequented the Mother Road many times. Sue loved to ride as well, but had been unable to ride her own bike recently due to the cancer with which she had been diagnosed. It was a gorgeous day, perfect for a ride. Unfortunately, that was the last ride they would take together. They were hit by a car that was driving across two lanes of traffic pulling out of a gas station. Both were pronounced dead after hospital personnel were unable to stabilize them. Our family can take comfort that they passed from this life together and the cancer that Sue was battling did not end her life, as she so often said it wouldn’t. However, part of the sadness in this tragedy is the four dogs they left behind…their children.
They had adopted their furry children over the course of the past seven years and were true animal lovers. Their dogs were the only children they ever had and it was their final wishes that the dogs find a good home together until their natural death. Our family would love to fulfill this hope for their children, but we are also aware that the reality might be separation in order for them to be adopted into a loving home. All dogs have been spayed and neutered and are updated on all their vaccinations. In the picture below from left to right, they are: Anacortes (6 yr old, 47 lb female American Eskimo/lab mix), Cedonia (3 yr old, 34 lb female husky mix), Tacoma (7 yr old, 92 lb male lab mix), and Everett (4 yr old, 47 lb male Australian Shepherd/lab mix).
Currently, the dogs are spending their time at the Chicago Canine Club in Burr Ridge. Anyone interested in meeting them for a possible adoption should contact Kathy Deets for an appointment at 708-542-8969 (Kathy@chicagocanineclub.com) as well as Kim Mayer of the Kelm Family at 815-272-4583 (mayerdnk72@hotmail.com).
