Starlet - The Real Face of Puppy Mills
8/1/09 Update:
We lost Starlet on Saturday morning 8/1/09. We are devastated and thank you for all the kind support.
7/28/09 Update:
A volunteer for Help Save One went to pick up an older breeder dog that a puppy mill had surrendered along with two other dogs. We work with another organization and we help each other from time to time when the need arises. When our volunteer got there she noticed a tiny yorkie puppy dragging her back legs behind her. The organization said they wanted a rescue to take her. She was a puppy mill throw away.
We have all seen the puppy mill photos of the old breeder dogs. This is the face of the puppy victims. Tossed away with no vet care and set to be euthanized because of a birth defect.
We named her Starlet because she will be Help Save One's shining star. Starlet is on her way to us now and she will immediately see a vet. She drags her back legs behind her and is incontinent. This could be spina bifida or some other type of paralysis. At the very least she will need alot of tests, vet care, and a wheel chair. Surgery may also be on the horizon.
Starlet is going to need alot of care and we are committing to her. We did not plan on her but she is in our lives now and we are happy for the chance to be able to help.
She is not available for adoption but we could sure use any help we can get. We are already cash poor and this is going to be an expensive endeavor which we will fulfill to its fullest. Nothing will be spared on this girl and she will not be euthanized.
In her face is what a true puppy mill is. She is away from there now and on a journey to her new life where she'll never be tossed away ever again.
If you want to help please donate through the urgent dog fund and note STARLET. Regular updates will be posted here on her progress. I have some posted some photos of her on transport and on her way to us.
Cross post her story everywhere so people can see the reality of what happens in puppy mills. Look at her trying to play and dragging herself. She is so in love with Utica who is a poodle/chi mix and Utica is taking care of Starlet even though Utica is only a puppy as well!
Also pictured below is a baby pug who is going to Curly Tail (www.curlytailpugrescue.org) and an older breeder poodle we rescued as well. The poodle is so scared of humans but acts like a mom to the pug.
At some point, maybe before or maybe after death, man will have to answer for what we did to our companion animals. Some people will have alot of explaining to do.
You can learn alot from a puppy and an "old" dog. Sometimes more than you can from a human.
