 Dear HSO,

I adopted Tess (previously Lemons) just over a year ago and I adopted Dozer (previously Hooch) about 9 months ago.  Tess is a very energetic girl who loves playing outside and probably the friendliest dog I have ever met.  When Dozer came here he was estimated to be 5-6 months old and weighed only 31 lbs where you could see his entire back bone and every single rib.  He now weighs a very healthy 64 lbs.  They are both wonderful dogs who make a great addition to our family.  The dogs play together all day and wear each other out especially since they discovered the river behind our house.  They are two of the most loving and affectionate animals I could ever imagine.  I cannot image our families lives without these dogs.

Thank You!
Gabe

Meghan,

We just wanted to give you and update on Merlin. He is doing well and is about 20 lbs now. He has been to the vet a couple of times for follow up shots and stuff. After a rough couple of first  days until he and Scruffy established the rules every thing is going well. The kids are loving having a puppy that has their energy and are taking him walking and running around the back yard everyday.

Thank you so much again,
Dave and Pam Alexander

Thank you,

Dear HSO,

Pepe here. Thank you so much for helping me get back on my feet and healthy enough to adopt a forever family.  I couldn't have done it without you and I am grateful for my new life which you made possible!  I have so much fun here.....I have this big bed that I share with Mom and Dad.  Dad even says I snore louder than him - cool, eh?!  And I love to play with my new 'people kids'.  They have as much energy as me and my Mom says it's a good thing too because they need all the exercise I give them.  I love my new little sister (Maddy) - and she explained to me that since she is much older that I can be the King, but she is the ruling Queen and that seems like a pretty good arrangement.  My new people came with a house and land too which is great! I've been good boot - no accidents in the house....and I can even run around in here really fast.  The foods good - I don't tip them mind you, but I give them something better - more kisses from the Pepster, which they really seem to love....but hey - what's not to love?!  They're so happy I adopted them....they're really kinda silly!  I've even got neighborhood friends - Tucker who is a little guy, but I think he's going to be bigger - he's only a baby at 7 months ya know - and then there's Marley.  Now he's a bigger guy than me, but I am 'top dog' if you know what I mean ;-)  These people are so lucky I came here....they have a lot of these little brown 'cat like things' (they call them all squirrels) that are constantly eating the bird food from the feeders....well, I'm working on that problem for them.  Of course, it's a daily job around here and I have no idea how long it's going to be before those squirrels get the message permanently, but I don't mind the work and Mom's glad the birds have more food now. There's an order to be maintained here in the animal kingdom, and as I mentioned above...I am the King.  The little people are so glad they have a new way to earn some money too - they scoop my poop and I'm going to help them earn some college money with this job!  Everyone loves to give me tummy rubs and well, of course I let them and I make sure they all get their turn.  I tell ya, these people really needed me and they are very happy I adopted them.  I just can't thank you enough for all you did in saving me and finding me my forever family.  I'm going to do my part and let my pals know how they can help HSO to help other dogs adopt a good family too!  We all love you guys and can't thank you enough for all you do.

Love,
Pepe

Good morning!

I have sent an update prior to this one, but I just wanted to send another to let you know how great Elo is doing!  You’re all doing an absolutely AMAZING job for these animals and Elo and I, personally, could never thank you enough for every, single thing that you do.

I always like to send the picture of what he looked like 6 months ago and one of what he looks like now.  Elo is weighing in at a healthy 72 pounds and he’s still growing!

Thank you again for savings Elo, he’s honestly the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Sincerely,
Tonya, Jay and Elo

Hello HSO!

We renamed Max, a black and white border collie/black lab mix, Rafferty, which means "Wealthy" in Gaelic. My wife is Scottish, and we also thought it represented his wonderful new life with a big yard and two sibling Chihuahuas. Rafferty is a very curious pup who absolutely LOVES the outdoors. The first time he saw snow, he jumped in head first and stayed outside to play in it all day. Now that the warmer weather is here, Raffy spends hours outside with his brother Cooper, running around and digging holes and hiding his toys (and an occasional sock from his moms) in the shrubs. He LOVES his walks and reminds us every day after work by going into the foyer, crying at the door, and nudging his leash with his nose. He has made so many puppy friends and is all around a super happy dog. He's halfway through puppy kindergarten and is a very smart student who is learning all his commands. We love him lots... thank you so much for bringing him into our lives! Attached are a few pictures of Raffy!

Thank you!
Jaime

Hi HSO!

Just wanted to send an update of our pride and joy! We've had Stash a year now and she's doing EXCELLENT!  She is now 72lbs (her local sisters are only around 40lbs) and is healthy, happy and a huge lapdog. She's enjoying her time hiking, camping and fishing with our family and watching over her human sister like the great dog she is.  She truly is a pleasure and we can't thank HSO enough for rescuing our best girl!

Thanks!

Hi Marissa:

Candy was adopted almost a year ago ~ July 15th, 2009.  When she arrived she was 4lbs.  She is a whopping 20lbs just a year later.  She has brought so much joy to my family and I can’t ever image not having her.  We can’t thank you enough ~ and especially for all that you do in saving these precious creatures.

Thanks again,

Hello HSO!

I think it's important that anyone interested in adopting and wandering around your website understand just what a big difference you all make in the lives of these dogs. :)  Funny that I should put a happy face as I was in tears just moments ago reading the in memory page. Let's face it, for anyone who loves animals, their plight is not an easy one to handle. So while I may cry reading through your site, it also drives home the fact that so many dogs have found forever homes because of the hard work you, Meaghan, Pam, Jillian and so many others do. That is why I wanted to share a new story.

I know you all remember Bailey, (pictured above-yes we took the balloon away). He was originally adopted to a wonderful mom in N.Y. through HSO when he was 8wks old. Sadly his mom died leaving him and 3 others without a home. At first we only wanted to foster one more dog hoping that when they found a home a new foster could take their place. Jillian was very upfront with us about Bailey, that he was a big dog with seperation anxiety and tended to bark at some people for, apparently, no reason. Talking with Jillian I knew that the right place for Bailey was with us where he could work out his issues, be safe and have a "family" of dogs around him. (As you know-he no more entered the house for Bruce and I to know he would be adopted into our family), we didn't know it yet, only that a foster needed us, so we set up a meeting place and Bailey came home.

I would be lying if I said those were not trying times. He was big, barked at anyone intimidated by his size,(only took me a second to figure that one out and issue the no fear ultimatum to the family before bringing him inside), and coped with the fear, anxiety and insecurity in the only way he knew how. Each time he chewed through another cushion, chair, table, couch or book I reminded myself that they were only objects, unimportant in the big scheme of things and not living in the sense that he was. He must of loved his momma very much to feel so hurt and there were days when I felt like I needed to quit, but, in the evenings he and I would sit in the porch and I would tell him how sorry I was that he'd lost his mom, that I'd lost mine too and through those talks he began to form a kinship with the new whacky lady that talks to animals.

Thinking back it really didn't take him long to start turning into the good boy he must of been and , since then, he has grown into such a wonderful, loving fellow. I cannot imagine what my life would be like without him. he is so well mannered and well behaved it's hard to believe that he ever was not. A little love goes a long way. I watch him now gazelling (he is tall and lean and springs like a gazelle), around. The vet says he is at a good weight, social and handsome and I agree!

I want so much for anyone thinking about adopting to understand that although there may be challenges, when I look at those eyes so filled with love, when he's sprawled out in the bed beside me hogging the fan, kissing Annie Bear or any of the other funny, wonderful things he does- that when ever that defining moment  hits you and you realize that each and every dog, cat or animal that gets love returns it nine fold and more...that inside each has hopes, desires, and dreams for a happy, safe home  as much as we do, and you make an informed, final decision to adopt... it makes it all worth while.

When I come home from work all the dogs greet me but there's something special hearing Bailey greet me with "Hellooo-o" and, sometimes, "I love you momma". When he is nervous or when the others are getting into something he knows they shouldn't, he comes and gets me all the while saying, "Oh no! Oh no!" (more in an alerting way for the latter, lol, the little tattle tail;) When he is sad, (as he sometimes still is), he lays his head on my lap and sighs and I know to lift my hand and lay it there on top of his head. There are some who say, when I tell them about Bailey, that I am crazy, or patient or kind but I know it is not so. I know that it is Bailey, Annie , Hershey and Rio who are the patient and kind ones. (We have also adopted another, Bruce's mother passed and the family wanted to bring her dog to a shelter when she was in the hospital). They love us all despite our imperfections and make us all the better for doing so. Is it hard having 5 dogs, yup, is it rewarding? You betcha! All are happy, healthy and well, all are loved. I know lots of people who are multiple dog owners but the truth of the matter is, no matter how many or few, rescue dogs are the best dogs.

I know this is long, but, two last things. I wanted to thank you for having Willy, Simpson and Judd (as well as all who died), on your memory page. I think of them often. With the pain of losing can also come the hope of those who are saved against all odds. Hershey was a part of the litter lost to the unknown (at the time) viral. If you'd not posted when they became ill I would not have been alerted to get her to the vet faster than her scheduled appointment. She fought through giardia, coccidiia and one more that I honestly forget now,(I could look it up but it's not important). So, if you're out there ,anyone, wondering if this organization, you or your donation can make a difference go back and read the starfish story and think of Hershey or Bailey or any one of these dogs... I think you'll find your answer.

With many blessings
K. Sikorski

My new Mom and Dad are helping me write this message to you.  I just wanted to let you know how I'm doing.

I am so happy here in my new home!  I have a new name that I love - Dixie.  Mom and Dad tried Morgaine, from The Mists of Avalon, but they decided it was too much of a mouthful.  I don't get it, really, because I'm happy when I have a mouthful.. And speakng of food, I get to eat really yummy food made just for me!  I saw the bag that it came out of and saw pictures of vegetables and meat and I was so excited at breakfast that I ate almost the whole bowl!  I got a special treat, too.  Mom and Dad called it cat food.  Yum!

The family I was staying with was really nice.  The little girl, Muriel was my favorite.  And now, I have a little boy, named Jackson, who plays with me and tells me I'm a good girl everytime I go to him.  Can you imagine?  I'm a good girl just for running over to him and letting him hug and kiss me!

I have some toys to chew on and last night I got to sleep in my Mom and Dad's bed.  My Mom and Dad said they are really happy to have me and love me and give me hugs.  I even have new brothers and sister but only one of them is a dog and she doesn't like me too much yet.  Mom and Dad said she'll grow to like me and I can't wait for that because she's really cute and I want to play with her.  She lets me sleep in her bed when I want to take a nap so I know she's a nice dog, right?  And we did run around a little bit when we were in the backyard.

Well, Mom and Dad just told me that we're going out for walk so I can poop.  Funny, huh?  Well, I love them a lot already so I'll poop.  Then we're going shopping so I can pick out my own bed and new collar and comfy blanket.  I think I want a green and purple collar.

I'll write to you soon.  Thank you for letting my Mom and Dad bring me home.

Sweet licks on your cheeks from Maine!

Dixie

Hello everyone,

I'm Bosco, previously known as Waldo and I am very thankful my mommy adopted me.  I don't know why anyone would put me at a high kill shelter because I am cute and friendly and made up of 100% love.  Because running and fetching is my hobby, one normal day while fetching a toy, I tripped and hurt my leg.  When my mommy tooked me to the vet, the vet realized I had broken my humerus into three places and my elbow in half.  As a result, they had to amputate my leg.

Although I have three legs now, I am still a normal dog.  And guess what...I am now the most popular dog in the neighborhood! I still enjoy playing fetch and I love to jump on my mommy's bed, although I'll do it when she is not looking, since she is afraid that I might hurt my leg. But when she does catches me, she carries me down and that's when I give her a big kiss.  I love to ride in the car and stare out the window at the world going by. I'll admit I have a weakness for snuggling on the bed with my fluffly toy.

Thank you to Help Save One for saving me!
Love always,
Bosco

Hello!

I am attaching some pictures of Jasper to share with you.  He is the most wonderful puppy and is doing wonders with our family.  It is nice to see more smiles around the house since he arrived.  Training him has been pretty much a breeze.  Jasper has changed our lives in so many ways.  It is nice to be able to focus on him as we move through our grief of losing my husband.  What a blessing this has truly been.  Thank you so much for the wonderful work you do.  I am glad to have become a part of the help save one family.

Sincerely,

Hello Marissa,

What a joy Abby has been! She is come a long way and has learned to Sit, Stay and come (sometimes!).

Today was her first experience with Snow and she was in heaven, bounding around in snow deeper than she is tall.

Abby wants to say something:

"We go to the Cape Cod beaches almost every day and play. I've have met many other dogs that are now our friends.

From Skittles who is about my Size, to HAWK a gentle giant Great Dane.

I love all the toys, it seems like there is a new one for me to throw and chew on every day!

I go to work with dad at the almost every day and love to ride in the Car and sometime I help mommy in the bakery. “Yum Yum drop something”

Just wanted to say Hello and thank you for rescuing me and helping me find a great place to live!

Love, Abby"

Thanks again, from all of us,
Philip

Marissa & Meghan,

As this is the time of the year to be thankful for all the blessings in our lives, and it is also almost one year since we brought Chloe home, we wanted to take a minute and send you a picture of her near our Christmas tree! She just turned 1 year old and she is as beautiful as ever!! She has SO much energy, I had to hold a treat near the camera to get her to sit still for the picture!  She is truly a joy and we are ever so thankful for your organization. We often wonder what would have become of her if you hadn't stepped in and pulled her from the shelter.  Happy Holidays and THANK YOU!

Hi Help Save One,

I adopted a dog from you over a year ago.  Her name was Tess (now Zoey), and she didn't show up exactly how we expected (we were told she was 8 weeks, she was actually 6 months, she was blind in one eye and we didn't know). Either way, she is absolutely perfect for us! I couldn't ask for a better dog!  When she first showed up, she was so skinny we could see her ribs, and her one blind eye was protruding so badly that the vet wanted to remove it. Now she's a good size, and we've been taking her to see an animal eye doctor every other month, giving her prescription drops.  The pressure has gone down so much that he said it doesn't even make sense to remove it anymore.  She is the sweetest little pup and has a heart of gold!  Our vet said he's never seen such a happy dog.  She has really completed our family and I feel so thankful everyday to have her in our life.

Thank you so much, and I hope you can continue to save dogs like Zoey!

Warm regards,
Elisa

Hi Help Save One,

This holiday season I am giving thanks for the special little girl I adopted from your organization. Haley (formerly Tasha) is the light of my life. She is so intelligent and at times I feel like she is closer to human than canine. I know that she appreciates HSO saving her life and me adopting her because she showers me with kisses every time we are together. Everywhere we go people ask "what kind of dog is that?" and "where did you get such a beautiful puppy?" I love telling her story and hope that each person I tell it to can find a place in their home, or a friend's home, for another rescue from your site. God bless you all for the important work you do each day and thank you for the best part of each of my days- Miss Haley.

Thanks again,
Melissa in NJ

Hello,

When we first got Elo he was 33 pounds, scared, and absolutely filthy, but today, Elo weighs a healthy 50 pounds, gets NON-STOP compliments on his shiny, black coat, enjoys playing with all of his friends at the dog park and loves his morning walks on the beach, he is one healthy, happy boy!

Everyone tells me how lucky Elo was to be saved, but am ABSOLUTELY certain that it’s me that is the lucky one.  Elo in Finnish means “life” and I am SO over the moon that he is forever a part of mine.  He has brought so much joy and happiness to my friends, family and mostly, to me. J

In addition, I noticed that Elo’s siblings (Spot and Curly/Lab Mixes) are still up for adoption.  I know how sweet my Elo is and I can only assume that his sister’s are JUST as sweet.  Maybe if someone sees these pictures of Elo, it will urge people to take another look at Curly and Spot?  Elo’s sisters deserve a home, just like the one he has now.   If people only knew how great Elo is, his siblings would be snatched up in a second.

Thanks again HSO,

Tonya, Jay, Family, Friends and of course, Elo!

Hi everyone!

My name is Ruby (aka Momma Ruby, Ru Ru, Scooby Ruby Ru, de la Ru) and I’m here to tell you that I hit the JACK POT!  I was delivered to my new mom on October 25th, 2008.  We had a GREAT  one year ago today!  Dad and mom found me on the Help Save One website after they had lost their first labbie to a rare cancer.  They said that if they couldn’t save Chessie, then they wanted to save a rescue.  Even though I didn’t pose for the picture posted on the website (I was camera shy back then) they fell head over heels in love with me, all curled up in one of my tiny foster siblings’ beds.
Picture
So get this, I now live in a 2,000 square foot doggie house!  No kidding.  I’ve got 3 huge beds to sleep on.  Oh yeah, there’s a bunch of little beds lying around everywhere but I don’t pay too much attention to those anymore.
Picture
I go to the park twice a day where I get to hang out with some of my doggie friends and go for a walk around the community, chatting it up with the neighbors, after dinner.  Mom only feeds me this yummy organic food (shhh, don’t tell anyone but Dad slips me the good stuff when mom’s not looking).  She even cooked a special doggie recipe for me when she first got me to make me strong and healthy.  I only had two little potty accidents when I first came to my forever home.  Mom and Dad understood that I was just marking territory.  I learned real quick that marking territory should only take place outdoors!  Mom could tell that I did not have such a great start in life.  I’ve got a few scars to prove it.  She was real worried because I wouldn’t bark and I seemed to have a very sensitive neck.  Mom would act like a crazy lady every time someone knocked at the door, running to the window barking, trying to coax me to do the same.  After several weeks of watching this odd human behavior, I figured I’d give the lady a break and let her believe that she taught me something.  Hey, it’s the least I could do. So now when I hear someone at the door, I let out a fierce bark that even scares me!

I LOVE to go for rides in the car now.  That’s something I didn’t like to do in the beginning either.  I sit up in the back seat like a quiet little girl.  Sometimes Mom and Dad almost forget that I’m back there because I am so quiet!  Just the other day dad got pulled over by a police officer.  The officer thought mom and dad had a human-kid in the back seat that wasn’t buckled in.  He just saw a brown head bobbing from window to window in the back seat.  LOL! We all had a good laugh.  At night, I snuggle close to my Dad.  I always have to be touching him, so I know he won’t sneak off somewhere in the middle of the night without me.  I sometimes fall asleep on mom’s tummy when she pets me long enough.  By morning I’m kissing up to Mom because I know she’s the one that gives me the yummy breakfast.

Last winter Mom took me out when it snowed and we had a snow ball fight.  I love to catch the light puffs of snow with my mouth.  Snow season is just around the corner and I can’t wait!  Dad got me a fleece sweater with my name embroidered on it last year.  I didn’t like it at first, being that I am a lab and all, I didn’t want my doggie friends to think I was a wimp. After realizing that I can spend hours outside playing in the snow now without getting cold, I don’t seem to mind the sweater anymore.
Picture
This summer was the best!  I got to go to the beach and learn how to swim.
Picture
With patience and perseverance, Mom and Dad have taught me quite a few tricks too.  I know how to sit, sit pretty (with my paws up in the air), seek (I will hunt down a yummy treat with my nose), sneak (this is where I do the watermelon craw on my belly), and I’ll give you my paw.  Mom keeps telling me how blessed they are to have me.  Hah, can you believe that?  I think I am blessed to have them.

Mom and Dad have been so good to me that I hardly remember any of the bad stuff that happened in the past.  I guess I’ve been good to them too because they aren’t so sad anymore from losing their first doggie.  Mom, Dad, and I wanted to let you know that we will be forever thankful to the folks at Help Save One that rescued me and my puppies and found us all wonderful forever homes.  We are also very thankful to the foster mom that took care of me while Help Save One was searching for my forever family.  I truly a-paw-ciate it!

Well, it’s getting late and I’m really beat.  We had a very busy day celebrating my first full year in my forever home!  It’s time to snuggle in one of my delightful beds.

Love,
Ruby

Hello,

My name is Rachelle. My mother one day, decided to go onto that website, and watched that horrific movie about what they do to innocent animals, and that day we decided to adopt a puppy. We named her Darcy, she was known as Darby. She has been an amazing addition to our family, She is extremely hyper, but we have plenty of horses to chase, and acres to run. She's such a sweet little thing, and we love her very much, although she's very annoying to our older dogs, they're teaching her the ropes. She loves to give kisses, and go for running leaps on to laps without warning. The picture of her, she was tired from a long day of running and stick chewing. We've owned nothing but labradors for over 20 years now, but she fit right in from day one. The first time i met her, she layed on my lap and went to sleep, I've never seen anything like it. She was so happy to be loved that we just spoiled her rotten. She was a mascot at my father's work, where she spent endless hours being pet and spoiled by employees, now she expects to sample everyone's food. :) Shes so excited to see us when we come home, and its a good feeling to know that she's in a good place, with people who love her. I look at her sometimes and i think what could have happened to her, and that god had blessed her that day, but not only her, He blessed us also. She's a beautiful, sweet, loving dog, and i am very happy to call her ours. So far we've found out, she does NOT like fire crackers, haha and Junior, her black lab brother, is the greatest thing since sliced bread, Chasing cats is a blast, and jumping on people while they're sleeping is hilarious, horses are HUGE , and mom & dad's bed, is the best!

We love her to pieces.
Forever.

Hi Marissa:

Just want to update you and send a couple of photos of Candy.  She is terrific!  She now weighs 12.9 lbs and is an eating machine.  She has grown above and beyond Cookie who is 1 year older than her.  They love each other and keep each other company.  They are both night and day but two peas in a pod.  Thank you so much!  Keep up the fight, because of you, we are blessed tenfold…….

Thank you!

Now that Halloween is fast approaching, I am reminded to update everyone of the pup I received on another holiday, Easter. On April 12, 2009, I met Peaches (formerly Cinderella #6892) at the base of the Delaware Memorial Bridge on the Delaware side. She had been traveling for two days from South Carolina up through New England, then back down through Ohio and Pennsylvania. Here she was transferred to another car with a man who was also adopting from HSO and offered to bring here a little closer to my home. I was so anxious! When they finally arrived, however, I was thrilled. She was so adorable! She was much smaller than I expected, and unfortunately, very skinny. We had to put her back in the car for another half hour ride to our home in New Jersey. She laid on my mother's lap very comfortably but she made her presence known as she let out a few barks halfway through the trip - to announce herself it seemed.

Once she was home and well fed, it was time to introduce her to her new life and her two uncles. My mom's dogs are both pit bull mixes as well, only much larger at 60 and 90 pounds. She growled nervously at the 90 pound pit bull mastiff mix and he actually walked away crying! She cuddled up on my lap for the rest of the night. At one point she actually put her head right up to my collarbone and let out a long sigh. If she could talk, I think she would have been saying, "Thank you."

She has made great progress since I got her. She now weighs a healthy 50 pounds of solid muscle. She plays in the yard with the two other dogs for hours on end. They taught her to use the potty outside. They have also taught her how to swim, and have gone many times in a nearby lake. Just recently, they all took a trip to the Jersey Shore
to run on the beach. She has been with me on a trip to Florida, and is an angel in the car. She sleeps in my bed every night, she even has her own pajamas. She never, never stops eating! She loves the busy bone Chewnolas.

The best thing about Peaches is her personality. She is very vocal, and I love that about her. If we aren't paying enough attention to her she picks up her big paw and smacks it down on my arm to let me know she is there. She is usually the first one up in the house in the morning and barks incessantly until all other members of the household
are up, both human and canine. She is so excited in the mornings to start a new day...and also a little bit of a troublemaker sometimes. She is always willing to shake hands or give a puppy kiss. When she wags her tail, she wiggles her whole body. Everyone compliments me on what a beautiful dog she is, and of course I agree. I am so happy I adopted her, and could not ask for a more loyal, loving, and mostly fun companion in my life. I have sent a few pictures so you can see what a beautiful girl she has become.

Thank you so much for my Peach!

Hello Marissa & Meghan,

Sorry it’s been a while since our last update.  Chester is doing great and we are so thankful he is part of our family.  It still boggles my mind why his previous owner treated him so badly for a number of years, and then dropped him of at a gassing shelter like he was a piece of trash, when he is such a sweet, sweet boy. He was a little rough around the edges initially, but given all he had been through his entire life, I knew with lots of lovin’s and patience he would persevere. He is a completely different dog today than that neglected, scared little soul who sat on death row through no fault of his own. I can’t thank HSO enough for making this possible for him. It was HSO who rescued him, but not only from a gassing shelter, it was also all the medical care you put into him….I know he was a mess!! I know Chester thanks you too, because when he looks into my eyes with his big beautiful brown eyes, I see his love shine through. He gets so happy and excited every time I tell him what a good boy he is, I swear he smiles..lol. He has learned to be gentle when giving kisses, he doesn’t knock me over any longer when he gives me hugs once I’m home from work. He carries his head high while we are on walks, and after he’s done doing his business outside I’ll praise him, he then gets all silly and prances all around the yard….he is such a proud boy now with confidence!!  He is still my little goofball, but he LOVES making his family laugh and if he can do silly things to put a smile on his families face he’s all for it. I know Chester is one happy boy as are ALL the other rescues you’ve placed into loving homes. Without HSO Chester wouldn’t have known kind humans, a kind touch, hugs, kisses, toy’s, and oh boy doggie cookies which he will sit for one now without being told to. He really is great boy, and such a love bug….he enjoys being loved so much.

I hope the pics aren’t too small for posting. I wanted to inc. the shelter pics so you can see how big and beautiful he looks today.

p.s. He sees the doc next month for his yearly vaccines. At the end of April he was 61 lbs, he has gained a lot of weight since I brought him home. I guesstimate him being 85-90lbs now, so I’m curious to see exactly what he weighs at his vet appointment. I use to be able to pick him up and put him in the tub, now I can only put half of him in at a time..lol.

Thanks again,

Love,

Brenda & Chester Boy

Hi Marissa,

How are you? I hope you and HSO are doing well.

I just wanted to give you a little update. In two days I will have had Gorby for one year. I'm not sure if you remember because you deal with so many dogs, but I originally planned on fostering Gorby. After two days I knew he was the dog for me and I wanted to adopt. Soon after we got him he became ill. We spoke a few times on the phone concerning whether or not to go ahead with the expensive treatment. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you for giving Gorby a chance. He is such a wonderful dog and I couldn't be happier. I'm so grateful to you and hope one day we can meet and I can give you a big hug.

I've attached a few pictures -- the first is from the second day we had him. The next one is when he came back from the vet after being sick and the last was taken recently.

Thank you so much,
Kumar

Hi Marissa;

Mom says you wanted a picture of me so I selected a couple.... she's taken alot and the flash doesn't bother me any more. She's crazy, Marissa, she treats me like a queen and I think she's great but she keeps doing things to my eyes and ears.  She's giving me pills but tries to disguise them in good tasting food but I eat the food and spit out the pill so she gives me more tasty stuff...so who really is smarter?

I'm really a howler and I let the other dogs know who's boss but I have to let my brother Indy think he's top dog and I let him have his space.  He growled at me once and I'm not scared of him but he's old and I'm a good girl and even let him have the front seat of the car.

Dad yelled at me because he doesn't think I'm such a cute table centerpiece but he's such a pushover.  Mom is easy but she makes me listen.

I met Auntie Sue today (WOW, she's really easy...she had new treats and things called toys. And I got to take everything home).

Marissa, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have this great life.   Mom promises me it won't change and truth be told, I really didn't have to do anything but be me and they all love me.

Hugs, kisses & wags,
your girl too,
Annie

PS..... from mom.... Again, thank you....she is such a love bug and so smart and so grateful when I should be the one who's grateful to her.

Hi Marissa,

Just wanted to let know that Bussey arrived yesterday safe and sound AND cuter than I ever could have imagined from the photo (that was cute enough!) He's sitting in my lap as I type. SO well behaved. He has met my dog Jasmine, the cats and ducks and no problem there at all.

I know you can only go by what info the shelter gives you, but I think this little guy is a rough coat JRT. If not all, maybe a mix with schnauzer or westie? Also, he must have been in a house before for awhile. He knows all about the sink is where his waterbowl comes from and follows you when you getting his food. And I know I've had him for less than 24 hrs, but he seems house broken as well!!! Can't beat that!

We are VERY happy with are new little companion (my husband is crazy about him! ) and will keep you updated on his well being and send photos.

I thanked Jillian myself, but please let her and her nephew know again how much I appreciate their overwhelming journey to bring all of these little guys to new forever homes!

Thanks again and have a great day.

Hello HSO!

Opie (formerly Comet) is doing really well, as I hope you can see from these pictures.  :)  He is a wonderful dog, and we are so lucky to have him!

Last Wednesday, our elderly Great Pyrenees, Lulu, died of what the vet thinks was a stroke.  It was so sudden; she had been out rolling in the grass a couple of hours before.

We are just heartbroken.  We had only had her for a year, but the rescue told us that it had to be the best year of her life as we spoiled her so much. :)  We were really happy that Opie insisted on staying with her until the end.  She was having difficulty breathing and Chuck told me to go to bed, he would stay with her all night.  (I called the vet around 9pm, but he was unavailable, we had made an appt. for 9 am the next day. We knew that she was dying around 10 pm, I had taken her  outside and she wouldn't come in, even after being tempted with steak.  Chuck had to get a friend to help put her in a blanket and carry her into the house because she weighed 122 lbs. She passed about an hour later with Opie by her side.  They really loved each other.  She let him sleep on her special twin bed mattress, they ate together, etc.  I knew that she was fading, and it was as if when Opie came she knew that he would take care of us.

Thank you for giving us Opie, is a rock in our lives, and we just love him to death.

Marissa,

I am attaching two photos of little "Busy", also known as "Pinta."  We adopted her last month from Help Save One.  She is full of life, playful, loving - just an all around great little dog.  She gets along well with the cats and our two small chihauhaus.  She likes to burrow under the covers at night.  I hate to think how close she came to dying in such a terrible way.

Thanks for all you do!

Hey there,

Just wanted to share with you some photos of gorgeous Mystie (previously Marshmallow) whom we adopted from you guys the first week of August 2009.  We haven't gotten any DNA testing done, but have done some extensive image searching and research - it appears the litter she came from might be Black Lab + Akita.   Thought you might find that interesting.   My husband, Brian and I adore her… she has brought so much joy to our lives.  Thank you and God bless. :)

Warm regards,
Lisa Pala-Hansen

Thank you so much for bringing Gruff into our home and hearts.

We were not planning on having a second dog, but the day I saw the photo of him and his sister, Meesha, on your helpsaveone.org, I knew he belonged here.  I knew we could make a small difference in supporting what you do for so many deathrow dogs.  What I did not know, was how much love and laughter Gruff would bring into our lives.  I did not know that my friend Marnie would end up adopting Gruff's sister, Meesha.  I wish everyone in the world could know the joy of watching these two sweet siblings reunited once again, and playing together happy and free. To know the joy of saving a life. To know these beautiful and innocent creatures once sat at deaths door so close to being gassed to death is unthinkable.

Gruff loves his Shih Tzu brother, Bo.  He shows his kitty sister love by trying to "share" her food.  He loves going on adventures with Meesha and Bo.  In fact, he loves every person and dog he meets.  He greets everyone he meets with a constantly wagging tail.  The tail never stops.

Meesha's mom and I discuss often how in the world anyone would ever want to turn two of the sweetest dogs we've ever met over to a high kill gas chamber.  At the end of the day, with Gruff snuggled up close, I close my eyes and give thanks for the good things still left this world.  Help Save One, Gruff, and all the innocent lives you have saved are at the top of my list.  Thank you so much for all the dogs on this page that you have provided a second chance for.  Thank you for bringing us Gruff.

I have attached a car photo of the kids on their way to the dog park.  Gruff never stops looking at me with that "love you, mom" expression. Sorry his tongue is hiding his adorable underbite. Meesha is up on the back of the car seat wanting to jump on her momma's lap.

Forever grateful,
Gruff's mom, Carm

Hello HSO!

It has been almost 5 months since we've adopted Presley, formerly known as Tibbles. He has come such a long way, it's almost unbelievable. When he joined our family he was small, thin, shy and very very scared (especially of men). He did not like walking on the leash, and once outside every loud noise would scare him to the point that I had to force him to go outside for his potty breaks (he much rather preferred to stay inside-and unfortunately had a lot of issues with potty training because of his fear of the outside). We moved to NH at the end of July into a house with a huge yard, and Presley has continued to thrive. He enjoys being outside with his brother Jasper (our other dog), and he has never had an accident in our new house. He is still a little timid around strangers, but will warm up to you as soon as he sees you playing with our other dog Jasper. He loves playing with balls and sticks and really enjoys rolling around in the grass. He has gotten sooo strong and muscular and has grown into a handsome Pit mix ( with Boston terrier markings). One of the most wonderful things about Presley is, that he is such a cuddler. He enjoys human company and will always come up to me rest his head on my lap, ready for some loving. He is very playful and loves to pull my 3 year old son's pants down to get his attention!!! Presley did not have an easy start to life, and there is no doubt that his former owner must have abused him...BUT the beauty of dogs like him,  is that regardless of how much they have had to endure, they will always find it within themselves to give love and to give life a second chance. Presley is a wonderful example of an "undadoptable dog" (as the shelter referred to him) turned "perfect family dog".

Thank you again,
The Sumner Family

Good morning,

I just wanted to let you know that we picked up Jacob, the large male brindle pup, on Friday, and we’re so happy to have him! He’s doing so awesome, and he’s adjusting well into his new forever home, and we have spoiled him with many toys and treats, and plenty more to come! J We just wanted to say thank you again for all you and the Help Save One team does, it is much, much, MUCH appreciated.

Here are two pictures of Jacob that were taken the night he got home to his forever home. We have some more, but these are pretty cool to us because they are from his first night!

Thank you,
Nick, Nicole, and Jacob

Hey all,

Sorry it's taken so long but we wanted to update you on Maxine (formerly known as Sophie) whom we adopted last December during the ice storm. I attached a before and after photo so that you could see how far she's come.  Maxine lives with her "sister" dog Sophie, 2 cats who merely tolerate her prescence and one who is her best friend!  She was shy skinny mother dog whose puppies had been taken and she was left behind.  HSO stepped up for her when noone else did. She also nursed some orphan puppies also rescued by HSO. She's barely 2 years old herself and has now begun to be a puppy herself!  She loves to tear apart her stuffed animals and romp with Buddy the cat. She has an eight year old girls who adores her beyond words.

She is a sweet gentle dog with so much love to give that I get tears in my eyes when I think of what could have been, what almost was. I want to thank everyone involved in her rescue, The shelter workers for seeing that she wasn't overlooked, her foster mom who took such great care of her and her adopted puppies. Most of all HSO for seeing her potental inside, especially Meghan who took time out of her busy life to bring her to us personally. She has gone from being a depressed, shy creature to being the happy dog she was meant to be. Maxine is one of the 948 starfish you have thrown back into the sea.

When I kiss her tonight, I'll ask her if you made a difference.
The Jackson Family

Here are some pictures of Nikkie that you helped save.  Her picture on the shelter's website in NC said "4 hours left".  Sylvia told me she was the last dog to get out of the shelter that day, and she was going to be gassed in the morning.  She obviously had a terrible life and she was terrified of everything.  We had to carry her up and down the back steps to get her outside to go to the bathroom.  There was no way she was going to be adopted.  Look at her now - happy and playing all the time.

She would have been gassed if it weren't for you and Meg.  We'll raise the money - don't give up.

Hi,

Thought I'd give you an update on Tonka. He is doing great. He has made friends in the neighborhood. I have attached pictures of him playing in our side yard with his buddy, Rusty. He did a few great escapes but we finally have figured out all the places he was sneaking out. He is a smart little guy.

Hope all is well with you.

Hi Marissa and Meghan,

We just wanted to give you some good news about Emma (formerly Sarah) and Skye.

They are settling into our home and routine amazingly well. They are just sponges for any form of love that we want to give them (nuzzling, hugs, tummy rubs and on and on). They both passed their vet "inspections". Emma WAS spayed (phew), and the only problem they have is worms (easily solved). So, all in all, we are extremely pleased. We'll be in touch again soon.

THANK YOU!
Jeanne and Scott

Hi Meg,

We took the pups to the “Walk for Animals” event for our local animal shelter and they had a photographer taking photos.  Thought you’d like to see.  They are so AWESOME!!!!!!  The best dogs we have ever had.  Such a joy.  We did puppy class 1 with Brosie and are now doing puppy class 2 with Jimmy.  We also went to a training with April Frost.  She wrote a book called Beyond Obedience and happens to live close to us.  It was great.  They are such smart puppies.  Mike and I were just laughing, saying remember when you guys lived in the city? (saying it to the pups) They are such country dogs…walking in the woods, standing in the marshy mud puddle in the back yard, running and pouncing on each other, eating sticks.  Such is the life.  I guess the guy who took the photos chose that photo for the website, it’s www.crowleyphotos.com

Hope you are well.

Hi,

Cali (originally Bambi) is such a sweetie!  We adopted her in January and is now 8 months old.  She's completed obedience school and did great!  She loves taking sticks for walks and eating grass that is in her way!  Everybody comments on how adorable and different looking she is.  Then they comment on her big ears!  We are so happy to have her and she makes us laugh everyday!  She wakes us up every morning with lots of kisses to make us take her for a walk.  She loves playing with over dogs and following us around the house!  Thanks so much for all you do!  When we are ready for our next addition we intend to adopt from Help Save One again.

Sincerely,
Jill & Tom

We were on Death Row !!

At one point we were on Death Row.  We were left there to die.  Many people would come in and pass us by.  Our week was almost up.  Then came Help Save One.  They knew we had hearts of GOLD and hope still left.

Hobey and  Stilly  (Stillwell)  have found the most amazing, kindest people to reach out and adopt them both.  These pictures  say it all.  They came from a high kill shelter.  Now look at them.  With tons of hugs, kisses, love and patience they have become an amazing family.    All they needed was a chance.  And someone gave them that chance to live the life they truly deserve.

Hello Marissa and Meghan,

It’s been 3 months since MOE came home. Moe is now almost done with Puppy Kindergarten and will be continuing classes with the goal of being a Therapy dog at the Nursing Home where I work. When she arrived in February, she barely weighed 2 pounds; she is now a little over 3. She has also decided not to use her litter box, and is successful at going outside. She is a good girl for the groomer and will even be entered in a Dog Show at the nursing home this weekend. She has already visited once and did not mind the wheelchairs, walkers and residents. If we win a prize on Saturday, we’ll update you. (We won FIRST Prize for the best costume!!)

Thanks so much for all you do-one pup at a time. I’ve been voting for you!

Maribeth and Moe (Rindge, NH)

Update7/20/09: Moe continues to grow- Now weighs 5lbs!!! She is getting in her molars, and the front baby teeth are slowly being replaced. This stage is that of a teenager for dogs as she is a week away from being 8 months old. Also, had acquired double ear infections (Bacterial and Yeast), after her most recent trip to the Groomer-I am now learning via the internet and practice to groom her myself. We will complete Canine Essentials class on Thursday-7/23/09. Monadnock Humane Society does a training plan to be able to pass not only Canine Good Citizen certification, but Delta Society Therapy Dog/Pet Partner testing/certification.

Hey ladies,

Rex (aka Georgio) is 6 mths old, he has been with us since the end of April and he has our hearts. He is a great dog, he loves the girls and he loves to play with our other dog Sasha. He has quite a few issues, intense fear of anyone but us and he can not ride in the car without peeing... the car thing we have worked around (we got him a band from Dr. Fosters which works great). He loves to play tug-a-war with Sasha and the girls and has a special bond with Jess our 9yr old. He is such a good boy (potty trained, sits and does high five ) and so loving and sweet to us.

All that said it makes me really sad and makes us love him even more, I can not imagine what must have happened to him in his few months of life to get this reaction.  It is not his fault and although we have had to make some adjustments they have not been that big of a deal. This also makes me very grateful for Help save one and all that you guys do, keep up the good work.

Many thanks
Deb

Hi Marissa,

It's been a while since I sent a picture of Chloe... we adopted her back in December and she is doing wonderfully!! She goes to work with her daddy and she has all kinds of toys and gets spoiled by the people that come in to the dealership where he works.  She's topped out at around 35 pounds and the vet doesn't think she will get any bigger...but isn't she the cutest?  She's a bundle of energy and just loves to play.  We love her to pieces!

Thanks again,
Kristen

Hi HSO!

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a few months since we adopted Kettle. He is doing extremely well. He has adjusted to his new home with no problems! Everyone at Help Save One was extremely helpful with my transition and helping me getting Kettle to his new home! Here are a few pics of Kettle on our trip in Sag Harbor, NY. He loves the outdoors! He loves stomach rubs and rolling in the grass. I wouldn’t trade him in for the world!

THANKS AGAIN FOR EVERYTHING!

This email was sent to HSO by Curly Tail Rescue:

Hi everyone,

A HUGE HOORAY FOR WENDY, one of our Puppy Mill dogs who was adopted recently!!

Wendy, Romeo, Penelope, and Charlotte, were four puppy mill dogs that were rescued a few months ago.  Their stories are on our homepage.

Kristin fostered Wendy, this adorable little puglet girl for three months.  Wendy was Kristins hardest dog ever to date let go of---the most intense bond Kristin has ever had with a dog.

Wendy was the hardest of all puppy mill dogs to learn to trust. When she came, she had a nest of spiders in her groin, was still lactating, had bloody wounds everywhere and had the most profound fear of humans Kristin has ever seen. She was super submissive and would do anything in her power to avoid humans including hiding, and rolling over on her back at the mere sight of a human in an effort to say "i give up, just do what you're going to do". Kristin and Wendy worked for hours a day together to learn about trust.

This email is arriving a week after her actual adoption because Wendy has regressed entirely with her fear of humans in her new home and we wanted to make sure it would work out first.

Her family is 100% committed and are dealing very well with her utter fear of them. Wendy is being very brave and trying her hardest to understand why she doesnt have Kristin anymore. She has been very sick and super emotional since her move but we are seeing steady progress. Please send positive energy her way.

** a special note to Kristin - Kristin, we can only imagine how you must feel w/out Wendy, you worked soo hard with her to gain trust of humans, and to teach her that no-one will EVER hurt her again!  I had the pleasure of meeting her at the Strut Your Mut event, and even though you had only had her a short time at that time, her progress was simply amazing!!  I was in awe of how you had taught her to gain trust!!  We all know you will miss her, and of course, she will 'ALWAYS' have a very special place in your heart!!  Nothing will ever break the strong bond you have.  You helped to give Wendy a new life, one she would not have know w/out you!!!!  Our heart aches for you!!!!!!!!  We know you love twice, once when you took in this petrified, bloodies, scared little girl, and again, when you did all you could for her, allowing her to gain trust, to learn to love, and most certainly, when you let her go to her new family.

A very special thank you to:

Harriet for driving her to and fro the vet during her dental and spay surgeries

Michelle girouard for doing wendys new famlies homevisit

Kristen and Nan for their around the clock work in application department

Marissa from Help Save One who always contacts us about

Hi Marissa,

Drea and Kristin thought you would like to see Penelope's "hooray" email.  Thank you soo very much for working w/Curly Tail to allow us to help to rescue Penelope, Charlotte, Wendy, and Romeo!!!

All the best,
Jeanine

-----------------------------------------------------

On behalf of Kristin and Drea:

Of the four puppy mills pugs, Penelope was the first to be adopted this weekend by Meredith and Matt from MA. Penelope was the timid/shy little girl who has blossomed beautifully into a regular velcro pug by the amazing work of her foster mom Mya. Mya did and great job and considering this was her first foster, held up unbelievably well when it came time for the inevitable but never-easy "goodbye."  Great work Mya!!!!

Many thanks to Kristen W. and Nana for being ever so stringent in choosing her home and a huge thank you to Harriet who did Meredith's homevisit and did everything appropriately to prepare her for adopting a pug like Penelope.

Lastly, great thank you to everyone who helped transport this lovely gal from Mya's in CT to Kristin's in MA for her adoption. We simply could not operate without all of you pet taxis. Penelope thanks Aubrey, Jeanine, and Erica, for being so sweet to her in the car when she was most nervous about where she was going and who she was with.  Luckily, she is now at her last stop for life---here is a picture of her and her new family.

Hooray for Penelope :)

Hello all!

Update on Deb (we prefer BELLA) the pup: She is like a happy, baby bear! Now bathed, she has long black fluffy hair and a petite face. She's rather mellow with a few spurts of puppy-energy. She loves being held. AND she's toilet trained already! When in the crate at night, she will just give a Yalp to signal it's time to go out. She's a joy.

Thanks again,
Jane

Hello!

It has been about 2 months since we adopted Harvey.  He was 1 of 10 golden retriever/lab puppies being fostered in Manchester, NH.  He has been an absolute god-send for our older dog, Rozzie.  Rozzie lost her older brother about a month before we adopted Harvey.  She is now completely in love with her little brother and they are inseparable! I attached a few pictures.

Thanks for all that you do!

Hello from Vermont! I thought it was about time for me to send an update on the three wonderful pups we adopted through your equally as wonderful organization!

The most important thing I think everyone who is a part of Helpsaveone should know is how happy we are that we adopted all three of these silly little babies. Lol. Well, they were littles when we first adopted them. Looking at the photos...it's so hard to believe that they have grown so big in just over 2 months! Rio, (fka Honoria), Annie, (fka Edwardia), and Hershey, (fka Hershel), are all doing very well. Annie, who turned out to be older than the originating shelter thought, went through her spaying last week. She has grown into a wonderful. caring and giving young lady. Rio can be quite the stubborn young gentleman at times but he more than makes up for it by being the ultimate love bug and Hershey, well, Hershey has this way of being just too cute. She can never seem to believe that we might be talking to her in that stern Mom voice we sometimes use. She just looks at us with that happy little face and wags her whole hind end. How can we resist her?  If I wrote volumes I could never convey enough how much laughter, love and life these three have added to our home. I love looking at their happy puppy smiles it makes me think of what a contrast their future must be to what it could of been and it just makes me feel so, so happy inside that we could be a part of their lives. They have, even in the short time we have welcomed them into our home, found a deep and abiding place in our hearts. I will never ever forget the look on their faces when we opened the door that first day and they discovered that their last stop was not another shelter but a forever home. You know, if more people were like dogs, the world would be a happier place. We just cannot thank you enough for the service you do to keep these dogs from death and getting the word out to people like us whose lives are happy enough but so much more fulfilled now that we can share it. They have given back more than we could ever repay in turn.

Blessings
Karen S.

Hello girls!

It has been about 8 months since we got General (formerly Christos) and although he was a little rough around the edges at first, he has grown to be both healthy and happy! He has gained weight and his coat is very shiny. He loves running on the beach and hiking in the nearby park. He plays so well with our other dog, Marvin...General is living the good life and has you to thank!

Thanks for all you do.

Hello!

I would just like to thank you for saving such beautiful puppies!  I adopted Blueberry (Stash now, the white and brindle pup) and my sister adopted Kiwi (Roxy now, the brindle pup). These 2 lovely girls are so excited to still see each other, and we have play dates with them all the time! Although both puppies have Daemon-X Mites they seem to be doing well and are growing like weeds!  My daughter absolutely love's Stash and the two of them are like the Coppertone commercials running around the yard! Stash came to us more or less house broken (yes, she still had a few accidents every once and a while) but she hasn't had an accident in over a month!  She walks great on a leash and is extremely fun loving and playful!  Both my sister and I absolutely adore these little girls and we couldn't be happier! You folks do a wonderful thing for these pets at Help Save One and we thank you!

Thanks!

Hi Marissa,

I just wanted to send a quick email to let you know how well Big Papi is doing! We renamed him Sweet Lou and he is loving life. He brings such joy to us on a daily basis, I am so glad it ended up working out. He and his big sister play all day long and then crash on their couches for nap time. He's such a little love bug and definitely a Mama's boy. Here are a few pics below of him last weekend. As always, thank you for everything you do and for working with us!

Best,
Danielle Eason

Hi Marissa,

I just wanted to let you know that James had his surgery last month and he came through like a trooper.  He didn't even need to take all of the pain medicine before he was back to his normal self.  I also wanted to send you a picture of Roscoe.  He is so funny!  He has destroyed part of the yard by digging and then sleeping in the hole!  What a riot and so cute!  They are both doing really well and are pretty much housetrained except for some marking behavior that I am sure will fade in the next year or so.  Thanks for helping me bring these great friends into our lives!

Thanks again,
Amy

Hello Marissa,

I wanted to send you an update about my newest adopted puppy! I adopted Murphy Lambert 3 weeks ago. When I first picked him up from transport I couldn't believe what a tiny bundle of cuteness he was and I can't believe how fast he has grown! He has put on 7 lbs since we got him! Murphy has more personality then any puppy I have ever come across. He is just a ball of fun and energy. Everywhere he goes people instantly fall in love with his unique look and his outgoing personality. He quickly captured the heart of 10 month old Bailey (whom I adopted in January of this year). Murphy looks up to her as if she were his mommy. She takes care of him and is very protective of him. They love sleeping curled up with each other after a day full of running around!
My whole family is so thankful to the help save one family. We are truly blessed to have been able to adopt 2 dogs with your help.

Thank you!
Meghann

Hello,

I just want to say God Bless You all that work for these dogs. You have hearts of gold. My family adopted Bart now know as  Shadow on June 10th. We lost our shephard in April to old age. Our other dog Shawnee was devistated. This had been her best friend for seven years. They were both rescue dogs. Now that Shadow is here Shawnee is so happy. They act like they have known each other for years. We are so happy to have Shadow in our family. If I could take them all I would but to save one is better than none. Shadow is doing great and enjoying everything. We take him and Shawnee for walks everyday, they run in our backyard and he lounges on the couches and beds. We are so blessed to have him in our lives and we wanted you to know he is doing great and will be spoiled and loved in his new forever home.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Hi Marissa,

Thanks for this wonderful pup she is the joy of my life. She is the sweetest and most lovable pup.
I can't thank you enough for her. I am so glad for the day when you wanted me to meet her when she crawled up to my neck and just put her little head down that was it she got me. She is in puppy kindergarten and shows just how smart she is.

Keep up this great work that you do. These dogs have an angel in you. I am so grateful to your organization that I got the chance to adopt Hannah.

Thanks
Debbie

Hi ladies!

I just wanted to give you guys an update on my dog who was named after Marissa, now named Kyla. She is doing great. She follows my mother and I around the house like she's our body guard. She loves my 2 cats. She also loves little kids and is protective of my 1 year old niece. Once she cries, Kyla has to see what happened and make sure everything is ok. I'm greatful to have her. I love that everytime I come home and walk through my door, she's running down the stairs, wagging her tail as fast as she can, to say hello mom!

Thank you and keep up the good work :)
Amanda

Hi Help Save One!

I thought I would send a little update about our dog Zoe (formly known as "THREE") that we adopted from you all last August. She has truly blossomed into an amazing dog and a big part of our family. When she arrived she was very underweight, untrained and untrusting. Yet here we are today with a model family member. She loves to run and play with her dachshund brother, and loves to give lots of kisses.

Last night she graduated from her beginner obedience class, and next week we begin her intermediate training. I've attached some pictures of her graduation last night :) It brought back memories of her arrival, and how I remember sitting in the living room, cleaning up a huge mess she had just made, thinking "We have a long road ahead!" However, her eagerness to please and true love for us has made it a fun process, not to mention frequently funny.

Thank you again for blessing us with wonderful Zoe. She sends her love.
Ashley

Meghan,

If I had sat down and written a list of everything I wanted in a puppy and handed it to you, you would have filled my order to a T! He's a wonderful puppy, he goes to work with me everyday and all my patients are in love with him. Several people wanted to know where I got him and so I passed your remarkable service on to them. I have a puppy-sitting list as long as my arm! He has brought such joy and happiness to our lives that I can't thank you enough. Here's his picture. Thanks again, and I'm so happy everyone was pleased with their dogs and puppies as well.

True Sincerity,

Dee

Marissa,

Wanted to send you some pics of JINGLES .. although Dave changed her name to ZU ZU. Ha!! She is doing very well.... and we took her to the vet already. Parvo is resolved and she does have some scarring on her lungs from the pneumonia - she still has a cough but is doing very well... and we love her. I taught her sit already :-)

THANKS SOOO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP! Have a great week

Kelly and Dave

Hey Meghan,

Gremlin is doing great. I can't believe he's the same dog in the shelter photo.

Thanks again,
Wendee

Hello!

Just wanted to show you pics of Dajah. Oh and in one picture is my Dad's Boston, Millie. My Dad is so in love, thank you. I will send some pics of Doezha and Dajah together soon, that should be soooo cute for the web site!

Thanks again,
Andrea

Hi Marissa,

Current picture attached of my sweet Bandit.  Absolutely love him.  He’s much more happy and confident since he arrived.

Thanks again
Anahid

Hi HSO!

Here are pictures of Marley, formerly Tac. She is a funny pup, she sleeps on her back as you can see and it is hilarious! Funny story....the other day she went for a "frolick" in the woods that surround our home and she came out with a dollar bill in her mouth. We couldn't believe it because it's all woods and not a lot of houses so it was odd that she found that. But I told her she was a good girl and to tell mumma where she found it haha.

Thanks again!
Jillian

Hi Marissa and Meghan!!

We just wanted to give you an update on Nala, formerly Uzara. She is about 13 weeks now and is 10 lbs!! We had our second vet appointment today and she is in perfect health. As for her relationship with her big brother Cooper, they are getting along better than I could have ever imagined. They are both rolled in a ball asleep on my feet together as I am typing this email. They are so close; they cuddle and wrestle non stop everyday! Nala is a little ball of energy to say the least. She is definitely a happy little pup. She has had two visits to the dog park so far. She seems to hold her own very well. She’s a tough cookie. Cooper has learned his big brother role and has been “protecting” her at the park. Whenever she feels unsure she runs and hides underneath him, he just stands there until she is ready to come back out and play! The photo of her in the pink sweater was her first outing. Can you believe that sweater doesn’t even fit over her head anymore!!! She also has been having a lot of fun with our rabbit. They are about the same size right now and he has fun running circles around her while she tries to sneak up on him…he’s way too fast for that! We are so grateful that you guys posted her on your site, I can’t imagine what her fate would have been had you not posted her on your web page. We thank you so so so much for giving us our new baby and we thank you for your continued support for dogs all over the country. You guys do remarkable work.

Forever grateful,

Marissa, Jeremy, Cooper, Juno and Nala!!!

Hi All,

Well, Della finally arrived last night.  Christine met me at one of her regular drop off points at 3:45 pm.  So Della and I made it home by about 4:30 or so.  We spent the first two hours outside playing with the entire family.  I have attached photos of this.  More will follow later, after her bath. She seemed pretty scared, but sweet.  So far interaction among the dogs is pretty good.  They've had a few growlish episodes, but just feeling each other out.  Della has already tried to play with them a couple of times and has thrown a few toys around on her own and with us.  And to top everything off, she slept in bed with me and our female aussie, Cricket, with plenty of snuggling.  I had Alex take our two male dogs into the guest room for the night, to help Della into the big group dynamic.Overall I think she is easing in pretty well.  And of course, we love her already.  We will very likely change her name, but are not sure yet what her new one will be.  We want to get to know her a little better first.

Best Wishes everyone,
Tracy

Hi Meghan and Marissa!

I was a little nervous when Noodles first arrived...She was completely off the walls with energy. I decided to get a few magazines on Pit Bulls and training and enroll her in a basic obedience class at Petsmart. She is making progress everyday and enriches our lives in so many ways. Yes, she does chew up everything in sight but hey, she is still a puppy :) She absolutely LOVES to play but when it's time to rest, she wants nothing more than to curl up by your side or lay on the back of her favorite couch nestled in the pillows. She is our "resident wild-child" but personally, that's one of things I love about her. She is learning to be gentle with the children and my older male Shar-Pei loves to play tug of war with her...it's very cute. My younger female Shar-Pei is jealous but she's always been kind of snitty, that's just one of her quirks. She is very smart and is learning quickly... She can sit, lay down, fetch, etc. and we are learning more every day. She was wonderful at obedience class last night. When people asked "What kind of dog is she?" and I said "a pit bull" you could see that they got nervous but as the evening progressed, they saw that she was no different than their dogs. She wants nothing more than to be loved and to please. So for those of you that are nervous about "pit bulls" just do a little homework on the breed and if you can commit to positive training and live with a few things around the house being chewed up, please consider a rescued pit (or any other rescue dog for that matter). It is true that no dog will ever love you like one that was once abandoned.

Thanks for everything.
The Brewer Family

Hello!

This is our lil love bug , I adopted her from a foster home in Nh. She's a very happy girl , and the whole family is thrilled to have her :) She has had a few names, and a few homes, but this is the end of the line for her . My children have named her Scribbles , and she doesn't seem to mind .

Thank you so much!
Kel

Hi Girls!!

Let me start by saying how grateful I am that I was able to adopt Bean!! We have had him know for 3 months, and he has adjusted just fine to his new home. He is an absolute joy to have around. He is enrolled in obedience classes, (not because he’s a bad dog, just brushing up on manners) and goes to “doggy day care” once a week to play with all his buddies. I tell everyone who is Seriously considering adopting to check out your site.

Attached are a couple of pictures, thank you, thank you thank you J We just love him to pieces!!

Hello Ladies,

I wanted to let you both know how GREAT Chester is doing. Today is one month that my boy has been part of our family and we love him dearly. He does great with our cat Spazzy, and his new sister Trinity. His other little brother Mr. Jingles is still a bit timid of Chester but we are making great process with becoming more comfortable around Chester (Chester's size spooks him a bit but he will give him tons of kisses over the gate). Chester's learned many commands in the short time we've had him and he listens very well. He does however have a temper tantrum from time to time...lol. He reminds me of my oldest daughter when she was two, she would lay on the floor no matter where she was and refuse to go. He loves his daily walks, but when its raining for some reason he LOVES to be out in it, and occasionally while were out for our walk in the rain and I tell him "in the house" he drops to the ground and rolls on his back, if I tug on his leash a little and tell him to come he does get up, but as soon as I say "in the house" down he goes down again. After a few minutes he's over it and gives in to Mamma...lol.  He is such a joy to have, and I'm getting to see his playful and silly side more and more as time goes on.  He visits the Vet 4/25 for his 6 mo. follow up heartworm check, and we are keeping our fingers crossed it comes back negative, but if not he will go through a second treatment. His first Vet appointment he was only 46.5 lbs but now that we got rid of those pesky worms he's gaining weight and his head finally fits his body. Chester and I THANK YOU BOTH and EVERYONE who saved and  helped him with his journey from the shelter to my home. If it wasn't for your kind compassionate hearts I wouldn't have my wonderful baby boy. You two will always be his Angles because you cared enough to save him from the horrible fate that awaited him. For that, we will be FOREVER GRATEFUL.

Warm regards,
Brenda, Eddie, Nakota, Chester, Trinity, Mr. Jingles & Spazzy.

Hi Ladies!

I don't know if you folks want a report on your adoptees - but I am watching my Rescue dog Suzy  (formerly Lucy the Boston Terrier  as I have  a  Lulu which proved confusing to Lulu) playing like crazy in my yard with Lulu - and I can't imagine how it could've worked out any better. Suzy is wonderful and LOVES playing with Lulu which is so good to see as before Lulu was a lump on the couch without any dogs to play with. She has meshed right in and it is sooo nice to have a BT in the house again.

Thanks!

Hi,

I just wanted to write you an e-mail and say thank you. It was a long night last night. We picked Argo up at 5 am and have been trying to keep up with his puppy energy all day after only 3 hours. I did get to enjoy a nap with him on the couch for about an hour tho. It was all worth it. He is such a sweet little puppy and is SO smart. I have no idea whether or not someone has been working on basic commands with him or not but after just a few hours playing with him he already knows his name, come, sit, down, and off. He also learned how to walk on a leash in a matter of minutes. we just can't believe how fast he got things. So thank you again and we look forward to a future relationship with your organization.

Thanks,
Caitlin

Here are a few pictures of Seymour.

He is such a wonderful dog, he sleeps all night and is house broken which I didn't expect since he is just a puppy. He doesn't like men to much though, he isn't aggressive toward them just keeps his distance. Yesterday and today he went to play with my moms 5 golden retrievers and had a blast. He is such a good boy and I'm glad I made him part of my family!

Thank you so much.
Jasmine

Hi Ladies,

Just sending a follow up on Wanda, we changed her name to Hermoine - Lulu (like the characters on Harry Potter!). She came to us weighing just 11 lbs and she just had her second visit with her vet, she is now 12 lbs 9 ozs and 4 1/2 months old! Hermoine has quickly become the princess of the house, not only does she have her own bed filled with toys, she has taken over the spare bed in my sons room and when she gets bored with that she will jump up on mommy and daddy's bed. Hermoine is an attention hound in the most affectionate loving way. She has brought more happiness into our home than we could have ever expected. Hermoine even does poo poo outside. We are still working on the pee pee though. She loves to play with toy bunny with daddy, she chases it then makes it squeak a few times then lets daddy get it. She is extremely fast but most of all she is the most beautiful dog I have ever seen (that may be a biased opinion but I don't think so ha ha) I just wish we were able to take her two sisters. If Wilma & Wendy are anything like Wanda/Hermoine the family that gets them will not be disappointed. They have a lot of love to give. Hermoine hasn't stopped waging her tail since we got her. Here are some current pictures of her, isn't she the cutest?

Thanks so much Lady M's and everyone else involved, our lives will never be the same!
Janet Vaughn/Kingston MA

Hi Meghan,

Here's an updated picture of Baker, now named Jasper.

Thanks again!
Jessica

Hello Ladies,

We have always had one chair that the dog would take as their own. Tucker seems very content here and I hope it stays that way. He seems to love tennis balls. He could sit forever just jumping on a tennis ball then running around the house. Prancing from room to room chasing the ball. At the moment he sleeps in my room. We have not been keeping him in a crate but we keep an open crate up stairs.
Tucker stayed home alone for two hours and a half. He didn't even go to the bathroom in the house! He's a great dog and I am so glad they rescued him. I just can't imagine the past couple days without him. It's great having a dog in the house again. When my old dog Bailey died, the house was as empty as it had ever been. It was the first time in my life not having a dog at home. If you hadn't come to the rescue, the house would be empty. Even though I am still sad about Bailey, Tucker has been great and we will make sure he will have a great life here in the King house.

Thank you so much!

From,
Erica King, Tuckers new sister

Marissa,

I can't believe that I have had Cooper for almost 4 months now! Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary! Many more to come!! I've attached a recent photo of Cooper - not the same scrappy dog he was in December.   Thanks for the adoption and for saving all these great creatures.

All my best

Hello, Marissa and Meg,

We just wanted to say thank you so much for our 2 babies Bella Bean and Doeza. We are so in love with them. They seem to be great friends and play like crazy. I can not even imagine what would have happened to them if you two had not saved them. All of my other dogs Papi, Stella and Tink just love them as much as we do. Everyone gets along great. My family and I could not be happier to have adopted for you at HSO.

Again thank you!!
Andrea, Jason, Kelsea, Trentton, Bryce and Evelyn

Good morning,

I wanted to give you a pic of Trecey to let you know that all is well. She went to the groomers and got pampered!

Thanks again!
Laura

Hey guys!

We are so happy to finally have Ralphy (we renamed him Gibbs after our favorite NCIS tv show character).  We wanted to share these pictures for the success stories page of the site.  Gibbs is doing great and we can definitely see the lab in him!  All he wants is his ball.  He's a great addition to our family and we all love him!  He's quite a mellow pup and was pretty shy at first, but now that he's getting to know his new environment we're seeing more of his personality every day.  He's chewing the bottom of my pants leg as I write this! :)  Thanks so much for all of the hard work you guys put into saving these dogs.  We are continuing to check the site every week and to pass the word along about the wonderful dogs you have for adoption :)

-Adam and Kay

Hi Meghan,

Just wanted to send you an update on Brutis. Everything worked out perfectly in getting him off the transport. He was in perfect health, and is the most lovable and gentle pup we have ever encountered. He put his head on my arm on the car ride and rode that way all the way home with his tail wagging constantly. That is, minus the few times he actually tried to climb INTO my lap. He is a big boy, around 30+lbs and is 4 months old. He walks wonderfully on the leash, and absolutely loves the snow. He is an extremely laid back and mellow pup, though he thinks he is a lot smaller than he is. He invited himself up onto our bed to sleep the first night, and he was so cute we didn't make him move. Thus, he ovbiously thinks the bed is his now his and sleeps there every night, usually on his back with feet dangling in the air and head on the pillow...he's already spoiled rotten! We are looking forward to one day getting Brutis a friend as he loves playing with other dogs. Thank you so much for all the wonderful work you do, and for bringing Brutis into our lives...it is people like you who truly make a difference in the world. I have attached a picture of Brutis from his first night with us on "his" bed.

Hello!

We have changed Odessa's name to Brigette. She is so very sweet, I was a little concerned for her with the Am Staff but no worries, she stands up for herself. She has gained weight & hair in the few days we have had her. She is pretty much potty trained. When we first had her she wouldn't walk on a leash and now she loves her walk! All tail wagging! I'm going to buy the dna test I can get the test for like $40, it will be interesting to see what comes up.

Anyway I wanted to send some pic's and say thank you!
Jackie, Luke, Mingus & Susie

Hey Girls,

I wanted to let you know that Brady is doing great! He is a sweet boy who brings lots of laughter to our home! He and Colton are the best of buddies who are constantly running around doing something silly together! He is recovered completely from being sick, thank goodness! We thank you so very much for getting us our 2 sweet boys, you guys are wonderful! Please feel free to stop in if and say hello to them if your ever in the area. We have 3 very happy, well matched dogs now! Thanks again for everything that you guys do for the dogs! God Bless

With Love,
Jessica Fischer and the 3 furry kids

Hi Meghan!

I am having a great time in my new home. I am now 13 weeks old and 10lbs. I have been to the Doc twice for my shots and checkups and he says I am a healthy happy puppy. Mom and Dad are happy because I am almost house trained. I love to eat, play with them and all my toys and go for long walks. I am a great cuddler, can sit, give my left or right paw and stay. My Mom and Dad say I am very smart. Mom and Dad are happy they found me through you and SO AM I.

Thanks for finding me a great home!

Abby (aka Fatty Bo Batty)

Hi Meghan!

I just wanted to follow up with some pictures of Roxy (formerly Zoomer) and give you a status update.  After a little over a week she is settling into her new home just fine!  She spends her time sleeping in her crate (“room”), chasing the cat, lying on my lap and playing with her toys.  I attached a picture of her snow attire, like her mommy she isn’t a big fan of cold or snow.  We actually had to shovel our yard so she’d go outside to go potty!  She is finishing up a round of antibiotics for her cold and we go back to the vet in 2 weeks for another check up and round of shots.  She’s a VERY quick learner and is starting to get over her fear of everything.  My husband and I LOVE this dog!!  :0)

Thanks again!

Stephanie

Hi Meghan,

I wanted to thank you so much for our beautiful new puppy.....Eenie, who we renamed "Penny". She is doing great.  My three girls just love her and she is adjusting well.  The vet said she is doing OK and gave her a first in a series of shots...she also got a supplement to take each day.  She is starting to play and getting into everything.

We just love her...Thank you so much for what you do.

Laura O'Grady

Thanks so much Marissa,

Holly is doing great! Getting into all sorts of fun puppy trouble, but she's too cute to stay mad at. She absolutely loves being outside, especially when there's snow to play with, and it's funny because Jak hates being out there and he's supposed to be the snow dog. Jak our husky must have taught her how to "talk" like a husky, because she sounds just like him. She's a great dog and reminds us a lot of our two labs who passed away last year, we're so glad to have her.

I've attached some pictures, some from when she was a little younger and some recent ones. She's gotten so big!

Thanks again,
Sandra

Hi there!

I just wanted to send you an update on Tucker (formerly Stumpy) for your success stories page.  He is doing wonderful. After heartworm treatment and a lot of love- he is gorgeous.  Poor guy was being eaten up by worms and we just had his 6 month check-up and he is free and clear and is getting neutered tomorrow! Yay! Please post the before and after of him -- it's amazing what a dog can look like with some good food and care! We love him to death!!! He gets along really well with our other dog Dixie.  She needed a month or so to get used to him but the play often now together :).  He is super smart too - he had a naughty moment this week.  He went into my filing cabinet under my desk and pulled out the Vet folder and chewed up the bill to his last vet appointment the week prior.  I think he doesn't like the vet visits....what about you? After spending a few nights there for heartworm treatment, I can not really argue.

Thanks again for your website!
Naomi :)

Hi Marissa!

Just wanted to share some pics of our puppy! He was the one listed as the blue Great Dane. We've named him Sampson. Now that he's fully settled in, he's hit his true puppy stage!! I think I've gone through at least 4 pairs of slippers so far, but I wouldn't have it any other way! He is simply amazing, and gets along great with my Bullmastiff, Bailee. He's quite the instigator, he'll run up to her, give her a little nibble on her hind leg or butt, and then boom.....he runs away as fast as possible and hides under the bed so she can't get him! Then, he starts it all over again! Too cute for words really!

Cathy Chabot

Dear Meghan & Marissa:

Thank you so much for helping us find Poe.  She was a very sickly little thing of just over three pounds when she arrived off the transport.  Her entropian eye looked horrible.  After some antibiotics and drops her eye improved.  She had some incredible growth spurts resulting in her eye correcting itself so she did not have a need for surgery.  Poe gets along great with her mini-doxie sister Riley.  Recently, Poe graduated from puppy kindergarden and will be attending elementry school after she heals from her spay which is scheduled for early March.  She is a very smart cookie.  She learned to sit early and even takes commands from hand signals.

As she has grown we have become fairly sure she is a Black Mouth Cur rather than a boxer mix.  Everyone who met her as a baby is just amazed at how she had grown - 30 pounds as of 5 months old.  She is such a joy to have around the house and has made an amazing companion for Riley.

Thank you so much for everything you do!

Sincerely,
Jessica, Alan, Riley & Poe

Hi Marissa,

Picking Buddha up today in Ashby was crazy! It was a trip!!!! What a roller coaster! I am just so happy to have her here with us now. She is so funny and she is having fun already with her Boston Boyfriend "Bogart"

She is such a love bug! Thank you again!
Roy

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to drop by and let you know how Maddie (formerly Yaka) is doing. She went to the vet two weeks ago for some shots and boosters...she weighs almost 4 pounds now (the vet says she's a little chubby!) but she is doing great. She is adapting very well...she thinks she runs the place. She is doing ok, not great with potty training and has a bit of an attitude, the vet suggested puppy behavior classes! Its so crazy to think that this tiny girl is such a little beast haha! Besides all of that she is a cute little muffin who loves to play! She is awesome! Thank you so much!

Ashley

Hi Meghan and Marissa,

Just wanted to share a new picture of Chloe... She went to the vet last week for her rabies shot and boosters... She weighs almost 20 pounds now and is doing great.  Everywhere we go people ask what kind of dog she is... People are guessing she has Corgi or possibly Basset Hound in her... she is definitely smaller than your average lab and has very short legs!! She is just the cutest thing ever, it doesn't matter what she is!  Thanks again for all you do for these dogs... I can't imagine what would have happened to our precious baby if you hadn't helped her!

Thanks again,
Kristen

Hi Marissa!

Doug and Kelly here. Just thought you might like a few pictures of Nash. He is just the greatest dog, we are so happy and lucky to have him and he the same with us. He is all done with all his shots come Monday and is a very healthy dog. Once again thanks so much for you and your organization.

Doug Kelly Nash And Pretty Kitty

Hi Meghan and Marissa

I just wanted to send you another quick update.  Yesterday Roscoe (formerly Hoss) participated in our local "Not Your Average Dog Show"  and was a VERY good boy despite the chaotic environment.  While he only earned an honorable mention in the "Ear-resistible Ears" category he won third prize as a "Mystery Mutt."  Of course, we think he was robbed of victory in the ears show (we are a bit biased) but are so proud of his "Mutt" status.  The judge/mutt breed guesser did not even come close!  She guessed he was a Boston Terrier/ Pit Bull mix.  She didn't guess French Bulldog at all!  I am attaching a few pictures of him in competition and posing with his third place ribbon.  You can see that by the time he was in the ring for the second competition he was so relaxed that he was even yawning.

Amy

Dear Pam,

I just wanted to give you an update, and let you know how Myles did on his first day.

First let me just tell you that WE are the lucky ones. We have totally fallen in love with him, he is everything that you said he was and more. He slept on my son's lap the entire ride home.  He took a tour of the house for hours just smelling and wondering around.  (Not one accident to date)  I got him a room full of toys, and although he pretty much hung out on the couch with us most of the day yesterday, last night he was racing around with his squeak toys.  I took him to Petco, and he did well.  He picked out some more toys.

He slept in bed with me last night.  He went with me when I drove Andrew to school this morning. And I believe he knows he rules the roost!  He is my shadow and is always by my side, or on my lap.  He will meet my other sons today when they get home from school, and the boys can't wait.  The neighbor's dog came over and introduced herself to Myles this morning.....he did rather well.  He didn't bark or show any aggression, he just stood there and let her sniff him out.  My landlord came to meet him yesterday, and she fell in love with him (like that is a hard thing to do).

I will send you more updates, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU to you and to the adoption crew, and to let you know that he is doing great so far, and I am spreading the word to everybody I know to adopt rather than buy.

Sincerely,

Michele Khoury

Hello Meg!

Here are some pictures from yesterday right after we got home.

We have decided to call her Chimi and she is already responding to it !!!

She is doing awesome!!! Yesterday she wouldn't go outside of the house and if we put the collar on her neck she would freeze and not move at all, today we got her the harness and she seems to like it a lot better, she is still afraid to get out of the house but she did go pee and poop out there today having just one accident inside !!

Thank you so much,

Caroline, John, and Chimi

Hey there,

I have attached a few pictures of Brody and our other puggle Lucy. I had to limit myself at 3, because I have millions. He has become such a wonderful addition to our family, and any time someone tells me they are thinking about getting a dog, I give them the name of your organization and tell them to ADOPT.

Thanks again!

Hi Ladies,

Tiger Lily (also Lily) is doing quite well.  She settled in and quickly established herself as the queen bee in the canine hierarchy.  She loves the kids and they have bonded to her very fast.  She's decided the best place to sleep is with my teenage daughter.  Once settled in for the night, she can't be moved.  She "cuddles down," under the covers, hogs the blankets and snores.  My daughter wouldn't have it any other way.  Tiger Lily and Donut have a wonderful time playing tug of war with the chew toys.  They get along very well.  Lily's only lesson to be learned from this point is she's NOT a lap dog.

Thanks for a great dog.

Dear Meghan,

First of all I want to thank you for two things...  first and foremost, Bassa, and secondly for the care package and yummy chocolate.  That was so "sweet" of you. Thank you very much.

We changed Bassa's name to Duncan after one of my favorites, dunkin doughnuts.  It is the cutest thing when he comes bouncing into the room when you call him.   We took him to our vet yesterday and he got checked out and four shots.  We now have a license to put on his collar which he  constantly tries to get.  We were a little afraid to get a puppy from a puppy mill but Dr. Siegal said he checked out fine and was the sweetest thing he has seen in a long time.  His technician said she just fell in love.  He was just so very good when he was getting shots.  He is 6 pounds exactly.

My three grandchildren have come to meet him.  Haley brought over all of her receiving blankets from her doll collection so he has a change of blankets.  Kyle brought him 2 balls and a bone bigger then him (he is eating it in the photo) and Alexis bought him turtlenecks (3) so he looks good when we take him out.   He was wonderful with them following them around everywhere.  He is really going to be spoiled.

Next Thursday we take him to get groomed. I can't wait for that as I would love to see his face eventually.   He is a wonderful wonderful sweet dog and your husband was right.  Alexis said I should have named him "tongue" he kisses so much.

Thank you again Meghan.  If you ever want to come for a visit please do.  It only took us 20 minutes.  By the way he loves the car.  You say "come on Duncan we are going out to Petsmart" and he bounces to the door, sits (which I didn't teach him) waiting for us to pick him up.  At Petsmart they fell in love with him and gave him a bunch of loose treats.   I don't know how we lived in this before Duncan arrived.  We just love him to death.

Thank you. I will keep you updated.
Andi

UPDATE: 3/1/09

hi Meghan

I am enclosing a photo recently taken of Duncan to show you how big he has grown.   You remember how tiny he was?  He is such a happy puppy and grateful for anything special you get for him.  Every one calls him by name at Petco.  My girlfriend came over last week (she is a professional photographer) and fell in love with him.  She took about 80 photos of him and is submitting some to a pet magazine.  We don't know if it will get in (sometime in late spring) but one of the conditions I gave her was to have help save one's web site listed in the article.  Maybe you will get some good homes!

I cannot begin to tell you how much we all love Duncan.  He is so smart, was housetrained to go outside in about 3 days and accidents are very very rare.  I read in one of your articles about a peke that puppy mill dogs need special attention.  I can only say with Duncan that if you take him to your vet and get it the care it needs along with the love and affection it deserves it will thrive like my Duncan.

Hal and I are still having heated discussions about taking another one of your needed friends...  Any one of them will return your love 10 times over.

Andi

Hello Marissa,

Here are a few pictures of Georgie's new life, she is a wonderful dog and we couldn't ask for any more out of her. She is a bundle of energy who oddly enough really loves the snow, there isn’t a day that we don’t chuckle at something she does.

Thank you again,

Jessica Hayes

Hi Marissa,

We are enjoying Owen very much!  He is doing very well and weighs 4lbs.  He and the other animals are getting along okay.  He is a great addition to the family.  Thank you so much.  We will try not to spoil him too much. I am sending you pictures of Owen,Lucky (our other dog), and Owen and Rascal one of our cats.

Thanks Again, Greta

Hi Marissa,

Yes, he's doing ok! He LOVES his crate. He goes right in it when he wants to take a nap and sleeps in it at night whines for about two minutes and then settles right in. We started the housebreaking process, which I have never really had much success with in the past but I am determined. He is feisty when he is up and about. I am attaching a couple of pictures. I'm already in love with him.

Thanks,
Debbie

Hi Meg and Marissa!

Colton has settled in and has come out of his shell! He is a wildman, he loves to run laps around the house! He and Madison sleep on our bed at night (under the covers)! He's a goof, we love him to pieces! I think he will have a blast playing with Bucky (to be re-named Brady)! We have shoveled out a maze in the back yard so that they can run and get out some of their energy! We are looking forward to many years of love and companionship from these guys! I will send more pictures once Brady comes home and gets settled in.

Help Save One is an amazing group of dedicated people who go above and beyond for these dogs. Without you guys, they wouldn't be able to have the chance to be loved and cared for the way they deserve. We are so happy to be a small part of this great "family" of people! Keep up the amazing work!!!

Love,
Jessi Fischer, Madison & Colton

Hi Marissa!

Jezzebelle (Bella for short) is doing wonderful! She is happy and healthy. I swear she grew a ton in the last week that we have had her. She's an eater!

She is adapting very well. We just moved in to our new house and she loves it. She plays with our two cats and loves to cuddle on the sofa. As soon as I can find my camera cord I will get some pictures on the computer and send them.

I just had to keep her. She really is the sweetest dog. :) I couldn't picture our home without her.

Thanks for everything, and we will be in touch.

Jill

Meg,

Oh My God!!!! Zazu ( now known as Loki ) is so beautiful.  What a great puppy.  He had a fabulous first night and I just wanted to thank you for bringing him to our lives......he is a wonderful addition to our family!!!!

Hi Meghan and Marissa;

Sorry it took me so long to write but as you know I pretty much have my hands full right now. But I am very happy to say that all is going absolutely fantastic. BASIL and GOKU are getting along absolutely GREAT, better than I could have ever hoped, for one week’s period. It is amazing how BASIL has totally taken to GOKU almost in a motherly fashion, she cleans his eye’s, cleans his paws, even cleans his ears, and he relishes every minute of it. They are inseparable already, anything BASIL does GOKU has to do, they sleep together, play together, eat and drink together it’s unbelievable. I am so glad that I made the move to get BASIL a friend; it is definitely what she needed to fully bring her out of her shell. Both dogs and Dad are doing GREAT, just wanted to let you know.

Thank You, Thank You Again, I cannot say it enough how GREAT you are for what you do…………………………..Thank You, I'll keep you updated.

Tom, BASIL & GOKU (formerly SAFARI)

Meghan,

Here are a few pictures of Julie.  I am attaching 3, please post which ever ones you would like.

Julie acts like she was born here.  She is a sweet dog and gets along with the cats and my two other dogs.  She has however become the queen of the house and everyone here bows down to her wishes, including my other two dogs, and cats, and my husband.  It is a riot.  She doesn't ask much, just a lap to sit in when she wants one, a bed to sleep in with a human at night, and also all toy, treats, shoes in the house are hers and she will put everything she has laid claim to under the kitchen table.  It is all hers and nobody but the humans can touch it.  She is not mean about it, nor would she bite anyone or any other animal in the house, she just chases them away from her private stash.  We all think it is the funniest thing we have ever seen.

She is a love and I wouldn't trade her for the world.  My husband keeps asking me how the heck a great dog like her ever ended up in a kill shelter.  I tell him all the time I don't know and I don't care.  Someone lost out on a great little dog, and we have her now and here she will stay for the rest of her natural life.

Thanks again,
Kathleen

Hi Meghan and Marissa,

I just wanted to tell you that it has been almost a week since Hoss and James came home and everything seems to be going well.  My other dogs were quick to accept them in the household, even though they are not best friends yet and the two boys are doing really well with house training and learning the rhythms of our family.  Their fecal tests were negative and they were both treated with Frontline.  Hoss is underweight but seems to enjoy trying to make up for it and James still does not EVER want you to stop petting him.  They are both such dear, sweet dogs that I can't imagine anyone giving them up.  We all love them so much, thank you for letting us bring them into our lives!

I am attaching a couple of pictures of "the boys" Hoss (now Roscoe) and James.  The first is Roscoe on his favorite perch...a battered old footstool in the kitchen and the second is James trying to get to me through the camera.  Notice James has his "happy ears" on and doesn't have the frightened look of his shelter picture.  They are such wonderful dogs!

Thanks again,
Amy Burdick

Hello everyone at Help Save One,

Last night (January 17) I picked up my female Blue Great Dane puppy in NH & already my heart is overjoyed with the warmth she has brought into my home. We named her Sadie and she is already showing such appreciation for everything she gets: from food, to kisses, to cuddles. In reciprocation for the home we have given her she gives us limitless licks. After losing our last dog to lymphoma after a string of health issues due to her being from a puppy mill, we vowed to never buy a dog again, only to adopt. When we came across your site and saw the wonderful work you are doing, we knew adopting from you wasn't only saving an innocent dog's life, it was enriching ours with a companion full of love and appreciation. Thank you so much for Sadie. The work you are doing to save dog's lives and educate people about the horrors dogs are facing through being gassed makes a huge difference!

With love,
Christina

Hi Girls!

Willy is doing great. He is such an awesome little guy. Keep up all the great work you guys do.

The pictures I am sending are of Willy and another dog we adopted. They love each other!

Thanks again!
Sarah

Hi Marissa and Meghan!

It's been a couple of months since Cooper (now Bocce) came home with us.  We would like to say thank you and send along some pictures!  He is absolutely wonderful and we love him so very much!  The first few days he seemed a little bummed ~ we think he needed to adjust and get used to being separated from his brother for the first time.  He snapped out of it quickly and has made many new friends since then ~ he is a very happy little guy!!!  We can't remember or imagine life without him.  A HUGE thank you to both of you, to his foster Mom, and to everyone else who helped him along the way to reach his forever home!

Sincerely,
Stefanie and Chris

Hi Meg,

Samantha has been a dream since day one.  She is the sweetest, most loving puppy.

She goes to doggie daycare during the week where she is a favorite with all of the caregivers.  She has lots of friends.  Everyday when I pick her up, she is waiting for me like the queen bee in a big, cushy chair. On the weekends we go to the beach and for hikes in the woods.  There are lots of dogs in my neighborhood so Samantha usually has someone to run around with at the park but she is also more than amused by herself.  She prances around and chews sticks and pounces on make believe critters.

She is great with kids and other dogs and is always welcome in the homes of my friends.  She was even invited to Thanksgiving and Xmas dinners.  She's a very gracious guest. She recently started playing with her toys.  It's so cute.  But with all of the toys she has to choose from, her favorite is always a plastic water bottle.  She tears them to pieces.

I'm so lucky that I found Samantha.  And I hope she feels the same way about me.
Jennifer

Meghan,

I wanted to update you on lucky! Lucky is doing extremely well and is absolutely wonderful. Over the past few weeks he has really had a second wind. He loves to play with toys, go on long walks and run around outside. He loves other dogs and cats and sleeps every-night with a golden retriever and a kitten. When I travel between RI and NJ, lucky sleeps the entire time in his bed in the car. He loves going on car rides and getting carried around. He really gives the 6 year old golden a work out. He is constantly trying to play and wrestle her. Its hard to believe he is 13 years old. I updated his eye drop prescription and I feel like his eyesight is getting better.

I found out that lucky knows many commands like roll over, sit, paw, stay, etc. I walk him around the block without a leash because he is extremely obedient and never leaves my side. The majority of the day he sleeps in my bed or is running around with a ball or rope. After he got accommodated with my house, he started eating much more and has gained a few much needed pounds. His hair is growing in and he loves to get brushed.

Please let me know if you ever have any 10yr+ older small dogs that need a home or a foster home. I have a large house and lucky would love someone to play with. Thanks!

Greg

Hi Marissa!

Here are some pictures of Marley ( formerly Tac ). She was being a little camera shy, but I managed to get a few cute ones of her. She is the biggest sweetheart and just wants to cuddle all the time. She watches her reflection in our slider door and barks and growls at herself, it's too funny. We are really happy with her and are so glad we get to give her a great new life!!!

Thank you again!
Jillian

Hi Meg,

THEY ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!  I haven't had a chance to write.  They are just the sweetest things!  Right now they are running around the kitchen, gathering all the bits of ice they brought in on their paws.  The moon is so bright so I took them out to run in the backyard.  We have about 2 1/2 feet of snow with lots of fluff on the top.  Brosie leaps through the snow and then crouches down to ambush Jim.  He is like a little tank trailing along behind her.  They both love the snow.  My kids LOVE them.  Brosie reminds me quite a bit of my dear dog, Bailla, that I got in college as a pup and had until she was an old, wise dog.  She has spunk.  I absolutely love her ears.  On the ride home she sat in my lap for a bit and was (is) so curious about everything, then she hopped in the back and curled up with Jim.

Anya took a bunch of pictures already and Faith was so excited to finally be able to walk a dog (Daisy was 80 pounds).

I can't thank you enough for all of the things you sent with them.  It is so obvious you loved them dearly!  We promise to do the same.  Anya gave them tons of squeezies before bed and told them both how much she loved them.  Thank you for sharing them with us!!!!!

Talk to ya soon.

Amy

Hi Marissa,

I know it has only been a couple of days since Bailey Grace (formerly known as Cailin) has joined my family but we already know it's the perfect fit! She is a very outgoing puppy. She hasn't held back one bit from running around the house and jumping around. She is a sneaky puppy too. She loves finding Tobys toys..stealing them..and running as fast as she can. It's adorable. They are great buddies already who love to chase each other in the yard. They especially enjoyed playing in the snow today. She has already taken a bath and looks beautiful. She whines at the door when she needs to go potty, sits when told, and stays in her bed until I wake up in the morning! Amazing! She has already gone for a walk and did a fantastic job on her leash. She is perfect!

I can't thank you enough for everything you have done to bring Bailey to our family. I truly admire everything you do to help save all of those innocent lives and I am blessed to have met you. I can't thank you enough for everything you have done for me and I will be forever greatful to you for bringing this beautiful baby into my life!

Thank you!!

Meghann

I wanted to thank you for Juneau (formerly Maia).  She is a loving beautiful girl and I couldn't be happier!

Thanks!

Hello!

We just got little Melba on January 4th and she is doing great. She love to play with our other dogs and she has so much love to give.  She is such a sweet little girl. We have attached some pics of her sleeping on the couch with our great dane puppy Dutches.

Thank you!
Erica

Hi Guys

Just wanted to give you an update on Vance, the German Shepherd/Chessie mix. We decided to name him Titan the second we saw his picture because my husband is a huge Tennessee Titans fan. Low and behold when we saw his paperwork when we got home that he was from Tennessee we knew it was meant to be. Our whole family is completely in love with him and he fit right in instantly. He and Zoey get a long so well and love to wrestle and play and romp around in the snow. Titan is on his way with potty training with very few accidents and loves to cuddle on the couch after a long day of playing. We are so in love with him and thank you so much!

Jen

Hi Ladies!!

Oh jeez,do we have any pictures? Haha absolutely, plenty of them! She's the love of our life. I don't think we could be happier with any other dog. She is the most well behaved well mannered little girl. We thought she was going to have a hard time adjusting since it took her half an hour to get in the car the first night when we picked her up, but as soon as we got her settled in she was all about loving us, and loving our kitties, and she has tons of playmates. Everyone in my apartment has at least 1 dog. We take her to run in a field almost every day and she goes with me to work. We plan to adopt from you again VERY soon. You are amazing people and do amazing things for these animals. I couldn't respect you ladies more. And about sharing them with the boston terrier rescue, I brought her to the vet and I don't know if you've seen her in person but she doesn't look like a boston terrier at all and shes much more mellow, but anyways, the vet said she was probably pointer, english bulldog, and boxer mix. They asked if we wanted to DNA test her but honestly, we love her no matter what she is. I like to guess. =] so thank you again for being so great and here are some pictures!

Rachel

Hi Marissa,

I wanted to give you an update on Paris along with these pictures. As you know, I was able to pick her up on the Monday before Thanksgiving thanks to your help. After getting her home it was time for a bath and visit to our vet. She weighed 26 pounds then and I'm happy to say she has gained 10 pounds since. Each day she becomes more and more trusting and actually wags her tail when I come in the room now! Last week she realized how much she loves belly rubs. She and our 7 month old Rottie were instant friends, a perfect match of personalities.

Everywhere I take her people can't stop saying how beautiful she is and so calm and gentle. I kept telling everyone there were 6 more that needed homes and how to save one. I hope all her brothers and sisters did find someone to love them. Thanks again for your help and I hope you enjoy the pics.

Best of luck with all you future rescues.
Deb and family

Hello,

I would like to thank you for the opportunity you gave me to adopt my dog, we now call her Skylla, but she was called Snoopy from your organization. She is doing great and loving her new home. Recently it snowed outside and Skylla got to experience the snow for the first time and she had a blast. I'm writing to thank you and give you an update on how shes doing.

Thank you for your help!

Andrew Skoronski

Hi all,

Just an update on Scooter Pie's first night... he did absolutely wonderful, he's such a love, haha and Amber said he didn't like cheese--well, a certain dog was trying to trick you! I was eating string cheese last night and he was trying to climb over me to get at it, and then I gave him a few peices and he ate them right up. He also started taking treats from my hand this morning so that was a pretty quick one, haha.

He's fine with my cat, too. He did have an accident this morning, but it was mainly cause I couldn't find my sweatshirt fast enough to go straight outside. He tried to tell me :) haha, we'll get there.

Anyway he's the absolute perfect dog for me, he's a nice size for the apartment, and I really can't believe how much of a doll he is. Right now he's got one paw on my wrist and his head resting on my forearm, about to take a nap.

How this guy ended up a stray is way beyond me!

Thank you SO much for rescuing him.

-Hannah

Hi Meghan & Marissa;

I just had to write to Thank You so very much. I know that you are very busy and are sure it’s tough to remember everyone that you correspond with. My name is Tom Mulhearn and I recently adopted BASIL collie/lab mix. Last Saturday Michelle and Dave brought her from New Hampshire right to my doorstep, which I greatly appreciated and was glad that they got the opportunity to see where BASIL was going to live.

I want to say to Marissa and yourself, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

BASIL is great!!!!! At first when she arrived she was very shy and cautious but did loosen up, due to the fact Michelle and Dave stayed for lunch so we got know each other a little bit and it also helped BASIL to settle in. That is until they left. I felt so bad as she paced back and forth in the house crying, and had an accident in the living room. My attempts to reassure her that it was ok and to comfort her went totally unwanted. She just sat facing away from me at the corner of the sofa, with a don’t touch me, don’t look at me attitude. Knowing dogs however I just gave her space and let her adjust at her own pace.

She slowly loosened up and by Sunday evening was showing signs of; this may not be such a bad thing. I put a big 3x3 pillow that I have on the floor and laid down, it took about 20 minutes for her to work her way over and curl up right next to my chest I got a kiss, so did she and she/we went to sleep with me caressing her. Well let me tell you at the next sunrise, all the rules changed. She woke up so happy, tail wagging, climbing all over me, kissing me laying on me, I was being totally mugged with Love, it was at that point I knew that; I HAD BEEN ADOPTED, and it felt GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

Needless to say we have been inseparable since then. What a personality she has, I don’t know if you ever met her, but if you did and as sweet as you thought she was, multiply that by 1000 (at least). This sweetheart wants nothing more than someone and somewhere to call her own, and she has it now and I think she realizes that, and boy has she adjusted. She has learned so fast, all I have to say is “pee and poop” and she heads right to the door to go out. When she finishes her business I give her a great big good girl, to which she runs to me and rolls over to take her rubs and praises, I am now mom and dad all rolled into one, and I love it.

I am attaching some pictures so you can see how good she is adjusting. The first picture is of my two babies that I lost last year VAGETA from cancer, and ANGEL from Immune Disease which led to heart failure. The reason I am sending it is so you can see how BASIL looks like a combo of the two of them, even Michelle and Dave thought so she is VAGETA’S colors, and ANGEL’S body type. My belief is that the two got together and helped me to find BASIL, to fill that massive void that was in my life. Aren’t dogs wonderful? Well I don’t want to babble on so let me just Thank You again for all that you did and all that you do. She is GREAT, I could not have asked for more love than I am getting.

Sincerest Thanks and Affection
Tom Mulhearn & BASIL Mulhearn

Hi ladies,

I just wanted to say thank you for my puppy. She is full of life and puts a smile on my face as well as my families. She cuddles with me as if she was a human being, it is the funniest thing. I'm glad I adopted Tara (now named Miley) so thanks once again.

Hi Marissa and Meghan,

Just wanted to give you an update on Midnight (now Chloe).  She has brought so much joy into our lives and even though we have only had her for a little more than two weeks, we can't imagine life without her.  I brought her to meet my 4 year old Appaloosa, Spice, and they are already best friends.  Chloe was giving her kisses!  Thank you again for this love bug.  She is the best!

Hi Meghan

Just wanted to drop you a note and a couple of pics of my little Sadie. 1 Week now and all is well. Sadie has adapted to life on the pond and seems very happy here. She's growing fast and doing most of her business outside already with only a few accidents. If I forget to take her out enough. Otherwise she is a great little dog. Thank you guys for saving my little girl's life. She is a true pleasure!

Thanks again,
Frank

Hi Marissa,

Here is the picture of Puni that will appear in our Spring catalog. She will be in mail boxes accross America soon. Please share with your happy ending page.

Hi Marissa and Meghan!

First, thank you! You were right about getting a pup and Stokley protecting her. Hailey is a little feisty one; I was hoping to introduce her and Stokley slowly as he is MUCH bigger than her, she ran right to him and jumped on his head; when she did that Stokley was a bit afraid of her at first.

She knew her name by the second day with us, and loves lots of belly rubs and attention! I let her out to potty in the backyard this morning, Stokley was already out and laying on pile of leaves, she went right to him and snuggled alongside him. My husband and I supervise them when they are out together as she is a little tom boy, and I don’t think she realize she is still a puppy. So, they are getting along wonderful! THANK GOD.  Honestly I was expecting her to be a bit more timid, she is a bit vocal when she does not like something, or when she wants your affection; she knows how to sit and down already, by day three at the house, loves those treats and loves to be inside with us, she comes running when we call her and I am just trilled.

I have tried to take her out on walks, but she is very afraid of cars on the street, so we just do a little. She is just a snuggle bundle. She will be seeing the Vet this Saturday the 6th, as her documents says that she needs another shot.

She has started puppy kindergarden and is very social, but does not like to share toys.

Thanks again!
Joanne

P.S, Stokley does not want to eat any of his regular food, and now wants only the Purina puppy chow that we give to Hailey….go figure!

Hi Marissa and Meghan,

I wanted to update you on how Kermit is doing. He is a wonderful little dog and I am extremely impressed at his house manners considering he was in a shelter. I don't have any idea why someone would surrender him! He does not mess in the house. He does like to grab paper, or toilet paper at any chance and chew it up, but for the most part he is great. I can leave him alone in the house for short periods of time with no problems. He loves the baby and overwhelms him sometimes with his overzealous kisses, LOL. He loves tennis balls, rawhides and small squeaky toys. I recently brought him to the vet and they gave him a clean bill of health. He follows me around the house all the time, and sleeps in the bedroom with the baby and I on a bed on the floor. The first two weeks was rough getting him into a routine. He did not want to eat much and I got worried about his weight, but now he eats 2 cups of food a day. The vet said that is quite a lot for a small dog like him but she said as long as he doesn't gain wiehgt then it is ok. I had to buy him a harness as the collar made him cough and choke a lot which I know is a pug trait. Just this morning I was washing my dishes and he laid at my feet until I was done! He plays with the cat and even cowers to her! He does seem a bit timid and will cower if I raise my voice for any reason which I don't do much but if I do Kermit will hide or go lay in his kennel. Here is a picture of him. Thank you so much for helping me get him. This probably won't matter to you much but the day I got Kermit my boyfriend who helped me get him broke up with me so it has been hard dealing with.

Thanks again, here is a picture of him.
Rose

Hi Meghan and Marissa!

I wanted to thank both of you and just update you about Bella aka "Dixie Sue".  She has been a joy to have in our lives. She is very much a cuddle bug as she always needs to be sitting on someones lap. Which at 6 pounds I don't mind.  Her first vet visit was Saturday morning also so happy to say we have a healthy 6lb little girl. We had our first bath Saturday that was fun she was a little scared but we just kept talking to her. She loves to play, her favorite thing right now are the ropes and bones. The first night I gave her a bone we didnt hear from her for about an hour, she was just chewing away on it.  She has seen snow or should I says she has gone nose first into the snow since its higher then she is. She's doing great on the lease, she'll go up the stairs but not down them yet. She knows her name, she knows to come when called and she knows OUT when we want her off things or out of things. She likes picking up her water bowl and carrying the bowl around the house once she dumps it. Once the potty training is down mommy and daddy will be very happy campers. But she is a total joy, I just can't wait to watch her grow up and learn new things.

Thank You again so very much,
Katie Shutts, Mathieu Vallier and Bella

Hi,

Just want you to know that Romeo (now Zeke) is doing well. I am trying really hard to put some weight on him. Now that the diarrhea has stopped that should be easier. He is scrawny but he was never lethargic. His liver and kidneys are fine. The attached picture will show that he is getting along very well with his sister Zima. They haven't started playing together but they do cuddle together. Zeke thinks he is on audition for one slot to be the family dog. I am trying to convince him that this is a two-dog family and he is home. He has made several trips to the dog park and has done well if not perfectly. He is responding to come, usually, but is improving daily. Today someone said "sit" to him and he came over to me and sat! He knows whom he wants to impress. Zeke and Zima have been left alone together twice. Once for 2 hours and once for 6 hours. They did really well. Well Zima is perfect and Zeke is pretty darn good himself!

Thanks for bringing us together and making my family complete.
Happy New Year

Marge

P.S. Zeke says thanks.

Hello All,

My daughter and I adopted Jake off the Dec 14th transport to New Hampshire. He is doing wonderful in the cold New Hampshire winter! He loves to play in the snow and is a big love bug! Hi Everyone,

We just wanted to give you an update on Luca (formerly named Boo), the lab/plott hound puppy we adopted from you back in July. Luca has turned out to be the sweetest, snuggliest, and most playful dog! She is healthy, beautiful, and we are constantly receiving compliments on her beautiful coat and inquires about her breed mix. Luca has a yard of her own where she loves to chase balls and sticks and every weekend we take her to my parents home where she has three acres of land to run, swim, and play with their lab! It's clear to see that she is loving life!

We were always skeptical of shelter dogs before we adopted Luca; we had heard that they can be aggressive, unhealthy, and dangerous (of course, we heard these things from people who had never owned shelter dogs themselves!) but Luca has proven these naysayers wrong time and again. We have vowed that every dog we own from now one will be adopted and many of our friends who have met Luca are now considering adoption as well!   We are so very grateful to you for bringing Luca into our lives and for all that you do for the needy dogs in the world. Keep up the wonderful work!

Many Thanks!!
Seth and Kristen

Hi Marissa,

I just thought I would share an update on Brady (formerly known as Missy). He is very happy and very healthy. He now weighs 33.5 pounds was neutered and is doing great! He has one of the STRONGEST personalities I have ever seen in a dog. A little bossy but it is very cute. I just wanted to say thanks again for all that you do for these dogs. I can't send a picture yet beacuse we are missing the wire for our camera to download one. Every day I look in his eyes and think about what could have been his fate, and it makes me feel great that there are people like you and the others that you work with who brought my best friend to his new loving home.

Thank you again!
Heather

Hello Marissa & Meghan,

Warm Greetings from Vermont! It has been one week since I picked up "Pringle" from your transporter. Now named Cyrus, this little pup is AMAZING! After a bath, a trip to the vet, and diet of organic chicken & brown rice--this guy simply shines! From his glossy coat to a big smile and constant tail wag, Cyrus is the sweetest, smartest, most attentive pup ever. I am so in love with him as are all those who meet him!

I work in a dog friendly office where Cy simply lays in his bed next to my desk waiting for folks to come by to pet him or offer to take him for a walk.  At home, he runs in farm fields, swims in the river behind the house, and has lots of new dog & people friends who come to visit. Inside the house, he is calm as can be and sleeps in front of the wood stove. He loves dogs, people young & old, and he is not fearful of new situations. Everyone who meets him--can not believe he is a rescue dog. He is so well adjusted and friendly.

Thank you for putting this fabulous pup on top of the save list...it is inconceivable that such an amazing dog was hours away from being put down. I will send photos of Cyrus in action soon. Many thanks for all your efforts on behalf of these animals.

Kind Regards,
Colleen & Cyrus

Meghan and Marissa,

Rusty and I received Scooby (Axle) on Sunday, November 16, at 8:56pm. He is the most quiet puppy that we have ever been around.... But he is so sweet and he loves to cuddle. We celebrated his official three month old mark a couple of days ago. Axle is doing great and enjoying his new home.

Thank you so much for Axle, he is the best!!!
Bridgette and Rusty

Hello Girls,

I just wanted to say thank you for everything, I adopted Henry 2 weeks ago and i love him! Hes a great puppy, very happy and smart. He loves my boyfriends dog, they cuddle all day. I cannot wait to get another when the time comes.

Thanks again!
Elizabeth

Hi Everyone,

We took Lynne (now Bailey) home on November 15, 2008.  She was amazing on the ride home, and loves to take naps in the car!  We've only had her for 6 days, and she already knows how to sit!  She's also learning how to lie down, and is taking well to her house training.  Bailey is a super smart dog, and Ben and I feel so fortunate that we were able to find (and save!) such a great pup!  He can't stop taking pictures of her.  She just loves to cuddle with me, and whimpers when she can't find me!  She gets along great with the other two dogs that live with us, and loves going on walks through trails.  We decided that she is most likely a german shepherd, swiss mt, hound mix puppy.  We just want to say that you guys are doing a great job, and are committed to an amazing cause!

Attached is a photo of her resting by our kitchen oven :)

Thanks again for giving us the opportunity to save a puppy

Love,
Anna and Ben

Hello,

Thought I'd share a few pictures we've been able to get of Sheriff...  The quailty isn't that great because my digital camera has apparently died or close to it...  So these are with my cell phone, which normally takes good pics but depends on the lighting. He does a lot of resting (as expected after all he's been through and all the traveling) but has been coming around a little better this afternoon/tonight.  Still not too fond of Jenna yet but doing a little better and they are still divided by a gate so hopefully that will help.  He absolutely loves my nine year old nephew.  Nicholas is spending the night tonight and Sheriff has a soft spot for him you can tell and of course it's mutual. Thank you again for everything and your advice.  We'll definitely keep you posted with emails and pictures.

Carrie

Hi Meghan,

Apollo arrived yesterday at 1pm, right on schedule.  She's a little smaller than she looked in her picture...but the sweetest girl, you're absolutely right!  (We also saw Nala, the younger husky mix, as her foster family picked her up at the Concord stop--what a cutie!)  We gave her water and the last little bit of my chicken sandwich with a few fries to hold her over, LOL.  She was licking and snuggling into my 19-month old daugher on the ride home, making her giggle.  She did fine with my 2 older dogs, we let them meet outside and get all of the sniffing out of the way.  Once Hobie, my male husky mix, calmed down, they were all fine and seem to be getting along great.  I bathed her (the transport ride is always rough, I'm sure you know!) -- she didn't like that at all, probably because she'd just gotten a bath the day before!  She won't come back upstairs to the bedroom right now, probably thinks she's going in the tub again, LOL -- but I'm sure she'll come up in a day or two.  She slept downstairs in the entryway with my older girl Trina.  She laid right by us while we ate, ate plenty herself last night too.  When we do our thing outside, she seems eager and willing to come back on the porch so I'm hoping she's already feeling like she's in her last and forever home.  She loves to give kisses and come over for loving, that's for sure.  I love her to death already!  Thank you to you and Marissa and your team of tireless volunteers for ALL that you've done and continue to do.  I will try to help financially when I can and will definitely adopt from Help Save One again!

Lynne and Apollo!

Hi Marissa and Meghan!

Ashley arrived at midnight on Saturday. She is doing just great.  We did rename her to Grace(Gracie).  We had a list of 15 names and Gracie just fit her perfectly.

She had a couple of accidents in the house but has already caught onto when we bring her outside, it is potty time.   We are diligent in keeping an eye on her and watching for her signals.   She was a little unsure of a collar and leash but again, she picked up quickly that it is not a bad thing and is now walking nicely.  She is a smart girl!

We are taking her to the Vet this week, hopefully today if they can squeeze us in today. She gives lots of kisses and is just a love bug.

Thanks again for everything!
Samantha

Hello again!

Just wanted to send you another note to let you know that Gracie is doing great!  We took her to the Vet and they told us she was perfect!  Everybody at the Vet's office fell in love with her. She is doing great with her housebreaking and knows her sit command. She loves any and all toys but most of all she loves Neela's(our older dog) toys which is a funny sight as most of them are stuffed animal toys that are bigger than her head!

Thank you again for saving this sweet baby and allowing us to adopt her.  We adore her!
Samantha

Hey everyone!

We got our new baby, Tom last night! He's so precious, he was scared at first and cried most of the ride home (3hrs) but he laid on Pacey's lap and gave a scared kiss every once in a while. When I finally turned the car off and we explored the yard he was still pretty skittish. Then we opened the front door with big brother Forrest waiting (I was a little bit nervous) But instantly it clicked and Tom realized he was in his forever home! I couldn't believe how at ease he became the moment he saw Forrest and realized this was his HOME. He didn't even jump when Rene (husband) bent down to pet him. He slept in Pacey's bed all night, though we had to put the trampoline next to it for a step cause he couldn't get up :) He met Pappi (cat) this morning with a gentle sniff and curiosity even though Pap came back with a friendly hiss and paw to the face :/ I think he is realizing Tom's not
a threat.

I'm so excited I just can't believe how quickly he felt comfortable being so scared at first. He just seemed to fit right in. Thanks so much to Lori (foster mom)! Heres a few pics with his big Bros.

Love,
Kelly

Hello Marissa,

I just wanted to let you know that Chuile arrived safe and sound yesterday after his long road trip. Apparently he gave Brandy quite a hard time coming out of his crate for potty breaks, but hasn't been a problem since arriving home. He even let me trim his nails without issue last night.

He is a bit scared and overwhelmed as to be expected but is very social for a chihuahua. He appears well housetrained which is a bonus for me, walks well on a leash and knows how to beg. I am attaching a picture of him and his new "sister" lounging on the couch last night.

Thank you for helping me bring him home, I will keep you updated on his progress.

Kara Brown

Hi Ladies,

Todd now Chance is doing great. We named him Chance seeing how he did get a second chance :).  He sleeps great through the night, not a peep out of him. He runs around the yard in the morning with the kids then we walk to my daughters school. He has even met the groomer and been groomed, the groomer is at the end of my street and I have been going there for years with our dog that passed. All the kids in the neighborhood have come around to play with him too! He is still very much a puppy and a bit chewy with everything, especially the kids. He has been a happy little guy...chasing squirrels and birds and balls. We are working on the potty training. He does not seem to give any sign at all before he goes whatsoever which makes it VERY difficult. Yesterday we only had 2 accidents and today we have only had one so far so I guess we are getting better, just wish he would give me a sign. He does know the word out and runs to the door.  He has also learned off, drop it and most of the time come. He is really a very sweet dog and pretty smart. Just wish he would completely figure out that we  go potty outside :).

He does want to play and run after the kids all the time. He even tries to chase the birds that are flying way up in the sky...very cute :). I attached a picture I took on Tues. with the kids.

Take Care,
Tara

Hi Marissa and Meg,

I wanted to give you an update on Saoirse. I was just looking at her pics on the "saved" page (she was the tan puppy with the scar on her face in the 8/23 saved section) and I forgot how little she used to be. When we got her she was 13 pounds. She's now 30 pounds, and our vet estimates that she will be over a hundred pounds total. When we got her she was nine weeks, she's now four and a half months old.

She's a really happy girl. She loves loves running around trails in the woods and the beach. When we are at the beach she will dig for hours, and then collects shells to put in her holes. It's really cute. She loves other dogs; she goes to doggie day care once a week for socialization and has two best "friends" there. She's so smart that it's unbelievable. My cat has a toy that you pull the tail to make the toy wiggle and vibrate. She figured out how to put the tail to make it move herself, without even human help. She's comepletely housebroken, she can stay, sit, and does "down" and knows what "give it" means, although she's not always eager to share, especially if she has something that she knows she's not supposed to. She's entering her "terrible twos" and we nicknamed her Saoirse the Destroyer, although she's learning quickly that not everything is a toy. (Except for toilet paper. Toiler paper may always be a toy to her).

She's really spoiled in some ways. She sleeps in our bed with us (in between us, and usually steals the pillows), and is usually the last one up in the morning. She loves to chase the cats when they let her; although this morning the cats were chasing her. The cats know how to put her in her place as soon as they get sick of her, and it's really funny to watch her hide and cower from an angry cat!! Everyone we meet comments on how pretty and well-behaved she is; it's almost annoying to take her on a walk where there is a lot of people because every person stops to comment on her, pet her, and tell us how great she is. She doesn't like the rain, so we got her a raincoat...and then a sweater....and then a halloween costume...and now she has a Christmas dress that she will outgrow by next week, let alone Christmas.

I've attached some pictures of her waiting for the vet (the lighting was really good at the vet's office, so the pics came out great, but she looks a little sad), a pic of her in her Christmas dress, one of her asleep where she still looks like a baby, and some pics of her halloween costume. She was a princess, and she was more than a little confused when kids kept coming to the house in costumes. She sat by our window and looked outside the entire time instead of running to the door every time the bell rang like she usually does.

I want to say THANK YOU for all your help in getting her to us. She really is the best thing ever, and we cannot put into words how grateful we are to have her. If she could talk, I think she'd be thanking you as well. Sometimes I look at her in the evening, when she's lying on the couch with us and getting her daily belly rub, or when she's wrestling with her "daddy", and I couldn't imagine what her life would be like without people like you to save her.

Thank you for everything,
Courtney and Cesar
Gabe and Finn (the cats)
and of course, Saoirse

Hi Meghan,

Hello again! We are the couple that adopted Henritta!  We wanted to let you know that she is doing wonderful and is such a perfect fit in our home and lives.  We changed her name to Zoey which means life!!  We thought it was an appropriate name being that we gave her a second chance at life.  It took a while to get Zoey to fall into her own, but she now has her own personality.  She is such a laid back, easy going, loveable, cuddly puppy.  Zoey was a complete suprise for me.  I had no idea we were getting a puppy at that time until I came home from work and walked through the door at 8:50 that wonderful Friday night to this sweet puppy with a red bow and tied to it was an egagement ring!!  When Evan told me about where she came from I couldn't believe what Zoey had gone through in her short life.  We LOVE her and are happy to have her in our lives.  Casey (our other dog) is learning to like her little sister and they are getting along well.  We attached a couple pitcures of her for you to see how wonderful she is.
      Thanks again!!
      Evan and Debby

Hi Marissa and Meg,

I got my baby boy Chihuahua this month. We changed his name to “Raleigh” since he came all the way from N.C. It was a very long process but I hope that people will see our story and realize sometimes that happens. There’s a lot of dogs to be saved, information to get organized, and plans to make. I hope someone will read this if their adoption process is taking longer than expected and remember that IT IS WORTH THE WAIT! Our new addition to the family loves to cuddle, follow his big brother around, and visit Petco. He is a sweet dog that truly appreciates being in a good home. Here are some of his pictures. I photo shopped them with the name of your organization on them so anytime someone asks to see pictures of him they hear about your site. Much Love to Help Save One! :o)

Hey girls!

Just wanted to let you know that Lola (now named Shia) is adjusting to her new home very well!  She's extremely playful and wants nothing more in the world than to be carried around like a baby. Haha... and she is a LOVER! She cries if she cant give you kisses. It's adorable. She is still getting used to walking on a leash... but refuses to walk in front of me, and instead stays directly behind my feet like a little duck in line, until I stop and then she squeezes her way in between my ankles and sits down. It's the cutest thing I swear. She's very smart... already knows SIT, is still having a little issues with STAY... and LOVES anything bacon flavored HAHA. When I tried to get her to nap, I put on some calm/acoustic music on my computer... and she was wide awake and sitting up. Are you ready for this? I put on Motley Crue... and she is out COLD within seconds.

Haha... that's my girl!

This weekend was very busy because of the ravens game here in town... and since I live blocks from the stadium... its a pretty big ordeal. She was my future boyfriend magnet all weekend HAHA... she LOVES guys, and is so incredibly friendly... she wants to walk up to every one she sees.

I can't thank you enough for doing what you do. I know it was a long process to finally get her to me, but she is so so loved, and believe me she couldn't be happier! I can't for the life of me even think of what could have happened if you didn't snatch her and her sisters up to be saved! I am so thankful to have found your website and my new little girl. I've attached some pics also... I'll take better ones in a couple of months when she's bigger, and give you a new update.

Thanks again for everything!
Jess

Update: 1/13/09

hey Marissa!

I haven't sent an email in a long time... I wanted to update you on Lola (renamed "Shia" - after shia labeouf if you wanna laugh haha).   I attached some pics to show you how big she is getting! we went to the vet the other day, and she's currently weighing in at a healthy 26lbs... and STILL wants to be carried around the house. Hehe. She's a hyper little thing though! Loves to play, goes crazy over belly rubs, and has an obsession with any of our slippers in the house.... no matter how many times she gets yelled at. Haha. She's great on the leash now - no more walking behind me like a duck, lol... still cries like a baby the minute I leave the room - even if there are other people still with her, and she LOVES to cuddle up to all of my guy friends, and let me tell you... they LOVE her. We get stopped every day that we go for a walk, because people constantly tell me how pretty she is :) She doesn't bark at all, aside from the other day where she did it for the first time and scared the hell out of herself... HILARIOUS. She's super smart... knows all the basics, and loves to do high five. She's AMAZING in the car - you don't even know she's there, no matter how long the ride. Sometimes I wish she'd be that calm in the house, haha. I love the hell out of her though... she's my little girl and she knows it, and is so attached to me its unreal. Have a look at the pics attached. I put in the first and only one I ever saw of her from the site... you can see what a beautiful pup she's growing to be. I still tell everyone I know about the site, and will continue to. Shia lights up the face of everyone she comes in contact with, and I couldn't be happier to tell them she came from Help Save One!

I hope your holidays were wonderful. I'll keep you updated as she gets bigger.
Take care!
Jessica

Hello Guys!

I finally was able to upload some pics today of Chase (aka Oliver).

He is doing GREAT! Just took him to the vet today. He weighed in at 28lbs 8 oz.

Hope the pics come through ok, I am not that good at this stuff. I will check back in with you in about a month so you can see how big he got.

Thank you AGAIN for a GREAT pup!

Have a great day!
Jen

Marissa

Just wanted to show you how Pippi ( Snap ) is doing !!  She has put on a few pounds and is the apple of my eye!  I love her dearly and she has quickly become a part of the family.  She had her first bath tonight and smells like lavendar and vanilla now!  She is so full of energy and not a day goes by that she doesn't have us in stitches.  She learned 3 commands in her first week with us and now does " sit",  "dance"  and " paw " all at once when she wants a cookie.  What a little angel.  Thank you for saving her, Marissa - my heart aches for all the ones who don't get the chance to light up someone's life.

God bless!
~Caroline

Marissa,

Gizmo has been here for almost a month now , and he is amazing! He has bonded to my 16 yr old more then anyone, he is attached to her hip , following her from room to room. We took him to get groomed and the groomers at Petsmart fell in love with him ,saying we could bring him back anytime for free. He is absoultely the sweetest dog in the world he loves nothing more then a good snuggle and kiss. People always stop us on our walks and ask what he is and we say we think he is a bulldog spaniel mix and they laugh so we started calling him Izzy because of the thousands of people who ask "what is he ? " every time we are out with him.

There isn't enough words to describe how greatful we are to you and Meg ,Craig and Wendy and helpsaveone.

Thanks again!!!
Marcie ,Gizmo and family!

Marissa and Meg,

Thank you so much for helping us bring our newest addition home. Vegas (formerly Becker) is absolutely amazing. Here's a pic of Vegas getting a belly rub from my son and hanging out with my puppy ( I know he's huge) Duncan. Vegas is gentle, sweet, and can run like the wind.  He moves so fast you can barely see his feet moving.  He's a great companion to our puppy Duncan.  They play all the time.  They wrestle, play tug of war and sleep together when outside.  He's fantastic with our kids, no jumping at all, and even knows which cats like to play and which ones to "leave alone".  He looks absolutely nothing like the pic of him in the shelter. A nice bath, and the beautiful shiny coat magically appeared.  I know Becker was held over on several occasions and was a shelter favorite and you strongly advocated for me to bring him home.  Boy were you right!!!  We named him Vegas because we felt that he really beat the odds and was so lucky to have your organization work so hard to save him.  He's not the only lucky one, out entire family, person and pet have all been blessed by his presence.  This was also a great opportunity to teach my children why it was so much more important to adopt rather than purchase a dog from a "dog store".  You've inspired us all, and we'll do all we can to try and help you continue to save!

Thanks again!

Hi Meg,

Thank you so much for everything you have done. I have had Scoobie (formerly Fred) for 2 weeks now and we are having a great time. Scoobie was actually the first name he answered to, and I thought it fit his personality...smart, loving, and a bit goofy. He does this funny thing where he lies down with his hind legs stretched out behind him and actually drags himself across the floor using only his front paws with this goofy smile on his face. He has been cracking me up all week.

He is the sweetest thing, and all he wants is to curl up next to me. In fact, he crawled into my lap while I was writing this. I can't believe anyone could give him up to a shelter, let alone one that kills their dogs. I'm so glad that he was saved. Now he has me, 2 grandparents, an aunt, and an uncle who are all ready to spoil him. I want to thank his foster mom for taking such great care of him and getting him started on his training, and I've been trying to continue with it...including not jumping on the furniture. I did have to give in, however, on letting him sleep in my bed (above the covers) at night. Despite buying him a really nice plush bed, he will only curl up on the blankets I use. Go figure. He would actually wait for me to go into the shower to establish himself on the bed and then pretend like he was too tired to move when I got out. I've sent in some pictures of him in his rainsuit, studying with me by the park, me holding him, and my brother holding him. He is too cute, and I'll have to send you his Halloween picture once I figure out what he's going to be...I'm thinking pirate :)

Thank you again for everything!!
Kristen and Scoobie

Hi Marissa!

I just wanted to thank you for our sweet Bailey Boo! She is the spoiled baby in our house and she fits in so well! She's been to the vet and has had a clean bill of health and is good to go! She is the perfect addition to our family and I wanted to send you some pictures! My son just adores having a dog and my husband loves to rough-a-round with her on the kitchen floor! She's really made our life complete and I thank you for saving her for us! You are doing miracles and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

God Bless!
The Ohneck Family

Hi Marissa,

Mr. Ohio (snark) personally we put him on a aspirin regiment for a week -- and that seemed to have helped with the pains he was having with his legs.  We now are running and chasing after him -- He has gained about 10-15 lbs and now doesn't clean his bowl everytime we fill it -- he has learned that free range eating is ok and that no one will eat it on him if he leaves some for later-- He has also got the leash thing pretty good now too.

He still likes to pee out of sight but getting better with that- depends now if he really has to go bad or not.
The kids are loving him -- My husband is too.  The dog is usually within 1 step of his feet at all times. He plays very well with the other dog they play tug of war together its funny as can be.

I have attached a few new pictures for you to see him.

Talk soon

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share the good news...Hunter went home with her new "mom", Alice yesterday. Alice is an 80 year old active woman whose doctor suggested she get a dog to encourage her to take walks.

When Hunter, Alice and I went for a test walk yesterday afternoon, Hunter was SO gentle on the leash for Alice. I think she knew that she needed to take care of Alice, just like she took care of her daddy, Bill. Before they even left the driveway, Alice had put a brand new collar and leash on Hunter; she had made up her mind that Hunter was her new love in her life!

Alice is working with Hunter on her housetraining, and told me today that Hunter is already having fewer accidents and is barking gently at the door to be let out. Alice has had dogs her whole life and seems to know how to handle the situation no problem. She also has a big fenced in yard and two cats that are already getting along with Hunter beautifully.

Hunter made herself comfortable on the bed with Alice last night, and had a good night's sleep probably for the first time since her daddy left her; I think she knows she is in a loving home again.

Thank you to everyone who called and emailed to offer homes or help; some folks said they didn't know WHAT they could do, but they wanted to do SOMETHING. I am very touched. I would also like to reassure everyone that putting Hunter to sleep was NEVER an option; I would not have let that happen.

So, here's to hoping that ALL animals have a loving home like Hunter does. I think my friend, Bill, is smiling from above.

Thanks,
Deb

Hi Marissa,

Thought you might like a few pictures of the puppy. We named her Holly. She went to the vet today. She has vitamins, her gums are now pink so they think she was just a little dehydrated, they dewormed her again and said it would be ok even though she just had deworming. I am dropping off a sample of her stool, they want to check for all parisites that are common in the south and said that they are different from what we have here. They don't want to treat her for them if she doesn't have them. She weighs  10 pounds. They gave us an estimated date of 1-9-09 for her to be spayed, and they accept the certificate from Friends of Animals. Thank you so much for our new little girl, she is well loved and a very nice puppy. Hope the rest of the litter find nice homes, they were all so cute, but Holly picked us, she was the only one that came up to us and put her head in our lap. The others were just playing with each other so we knew right away which pup was ours. Thank you for everything.

Sincerely,
Sandy

Hi Marissa -

I just wanted to thank you and everyone at Help Save One for Chip, who is amazing. I can't believe he was ever going to be put down, and I think about it all the time when he is sitting on my lap or sleeping next to me or doing something similarly adorable. Someone stopped me on the street yesterday to ask where I got such a beautiful dog and I wrote down the name of the website for her, so maybe he even helped save another dog, too. I hope all these people e-mailing you guys with our love stories make it worth it - I felt such gratitude for the wonderful people who had driven 12 hours from North Carolina to Connecticut and then New Jersey just to bring him to me. Thank you guys for everything you do.

This is a photo of him snuggling with my sister.

Love,
Rachel and Chip

Hi Marissa!

We absolutely LOVE Andy!  We've had him for about three weeks and he is the cutest little addition to our family!  He was a little nervous the first night we had him, but everyday his puppy personality shines more and more.  His is quite the little gentleman...except for when he eats frogs and chases the chipmunks in our backyard.  He is a nature fanatic!  We also collected four of his baby teeth and can't believe how fast he is growing.  We wanted to thank his foster mommy for doing such a great job nursing him back to health.  When we picked him up in MA, he was already crate trained, potty trained, and knew some commands!

Thank you everyone who aided in this little guy's journey to New England.

Hey Marissa

I don't know if you remember me, but me and my boyfriend adopted Bobby from you back in April... we went with intentions of getting Mr. White but was not friendly with Jenna my little dog. We just wanted to thank you and let you know that Bobby (used to be Loudie) is doing great. He's neutered and happy with us... he's dog agressive but we take him to training every week. I attached some pics of him so you can see the improvement.

Thanks once again
Karen

Hi Ladies!!!

Wow what an emotional day so far and it's only late afternoon! Old Gal arrived at 4:45 this morning and boy was she excited to see me (actually she was just stoked to get out of the kennel).

It was such a pleasure meeting the Transporters Craig and Wendy, they are awesome people- you are very lucky to have them as part of your rescue program. I got to greet all the dogs being transported and helped get everyone out so that they could go potty and have a drink of water. It was bitter sweet- very happy to see they all were saved but saddened to see how people have broken many of their spirits :( I must tell you that I really hate people especially after see just the few faces that were aboard your transport this morning. All of them with their own stories and yet even the emaciated black/white spaniel thumped his tail as I rubbed him after enduring god knows what so far in his sad little life.

I wanted to contact you ASAP before you give my girl away to another family . I would LOVE to adopt so just tell me what I need to do ! She is the most gentle dog I have ever met . She is even tolerating my obnoxious 1 year old puppy who has jumped her - bit at her ears-stole her food and anything other annoying thing you possibly think of . I took her to work with me this morning to have my vet check her out to make sure there was not anything else I needed to do for her. He found lots of lumps and bumps- some which concerned him and some which did not. I did also run a 4DX test which is a Heartworm /Ehrlichia/lyme test and she was negative for all three! (YEA) I sent out a fecal just in case she has any other nasty parasites that nemex won't treat. Oh I also almost forgot- she got a super duper massage as myself and another technician that works me bathed her and cleaned her ears - now she smells like coconuts !!!  Please let me know how you generally like to go about having the pets spayed/neutered. I would like to just have her spayed at Pasadena Animal Hospital which is where I work and you could put the snap cert towards getting another animal spayed/neutered. Let me know your thoughts on this. I am so sorry to ramble on I am just so excited to have her here in out home- she touched us just by her photo and to finally be able to love and hug all over her is a wonderful feeling. Thank you both for efforts to save all of these unwanted animals - you are making such a difference.

I attached some pics of Old Gal- no more hard concrete floors for her - as you can see by the photos she is worn out !!!!

Hello Marissa and Meghan!

Ryan has arrived in his new home and is doing great!  He is very happy here and loves his new 11 month old buddy, Brennan.  They will be great friends, we can tell already.  They play nice together and are already on the same nap schedule!  :)  They also fuss together, which is quite entertaining.

Ryan has made an easy transition into his new home, and slept through the night in his new crate, which was more than we could ask for! We expected to be up all night helping Ryan adjust, but much to our surprise, we all slept peacefully.

Thank you for taking such good care of Ryan prior to his arrival here. You are all truly amazing people for what you do.  I could tell immediately that Ryan had the best of care.

Sincerely,
Michelle, Mike, and Brennan

Hi Marissa,

My name is Ralph (formerly known as Big Red). I arrived in New Hampshire on the 9/12 run from NC. Here is a picture of me in my new yard. I’ve got a cool new bed, a brand new bright red collar that has my name on it and my phone number and tons and tons of toys. I love my new family and I’m such a good boy. I get to see the vet man today for some blood work prior to my being fixed----humm I didn’t know I was broken.

This is Ralph’s new mom, Mary. He is an absolute doll. He’s fit right in with our family. . We couldn’t be happier. Oh and he loves to swim…..he goes for a dip on hot days (not many left this year) in our pond. Anytime we can help out, please let us know. We’d be more then happy to foster at any time too.

Kudos to you and to the transport crew. They were great in keeping us (and I’m sure everyone) posted on arrival times and progress of the trip. We hope you know how much we appreciate your efforts….because I’m not sure words express our gratitude enough.

Mary and Lester

Hi Meg,

The puppies are doing great. HUGE. The male is an old soul, extremely intelligent, relaxed, and well behaved. The female is a spaz and gets him into trouble. We have added to our fence three times. They were digging out from under and we had to dog wire all the bottom and also bury cinderblocks in places. Now they are scaling it (actually SHE does that not him ... he just goes after her to protect her-then comes back every 2 minutes to tell me he is ok, then runs off to look for her ... I kid you not) ... they have gotten out only about 12 times so far! We take shifts and watch them in the back yard ... but they are so smart though, the little bugggers find ways to get out. Unreal ... they just go to the bike path behind us and then come back in about 10 minutes. We are installing lattice all along the tops of the fence now, but it will take a few weeks. I think 8 foot solid cement walls may be the only thing that keeps these dogs in!!

We do love them and they are very sweet and good dogs. I am glad we took them, though not many would have gone to the lengths we have with the fence etc ... at least I don't think so. :-)

Thanks again!!
Doreen

PS This is a good one of Raphael. Gabs does not sit still nice like he did in this shot! I need a high speed camera for her!

UPDATE 11/4/08:
Here are some pics of the pups on the beach. They are water dogs, LOVE the ocean. These are just from October... I try to let them RUN off leash in safe areas several times a week, they are full of #$% and vinegar these two! As you can see, they look different from each other now, Gabrielle (the female) being smaller and more of a buff color , unlike Raphael (the male) who is mostly white. They are good about coming back to me. Raphael is better and he will actually go and get her to come back to me... interesting pups. I think they need more training though and have to start that up again. They are still pretty energetic... they just play off each others energy. Real sweet pups!
Thanks again!

Marissa,

Charlie, whose shelter name was Coda, is a fantastic dog. We all fell in love with him at first sight. Although now a month later he looks so different --- he has new beautiful fur and a little bit of belly making him our most handsome boy! The volunteer was probably correct saying Charlie might have been tied up outside; Charlie was at first nervous of being indoors and would not walk up or down the stairs. He has gotten over all that, and now he will find me in any room. Also, although Charlie is not used to being indoors, he never has gone potty in the house! Charlie really wants to please and love all day. Even though Charlie is about three-years-old, there is a lot of "puppy" in him just pouring-out as he is enjoying his new life.

To Charlie’s credit it must be added how he not only is a great and loving addition to our family (which consists of three young children including a two-year old) but also is an equally important, fellow member of our canine family (which includes a sixteen-year-old mix and a ten-year old mix). My heart swelled up the first time I saw Charlie try to play with my sixteen-year-old female dog, Sandy, who has difficulty standing. Charlie fell to his belly in order to play with her, whom I never thought I would see play again. God bless him!!!

In sum, I have always had a dog since I was a little girl, and Charlie is the dog of my dreams. He really is everything I ever wanted! I am looking forward to spending each and every day with him for many years. And sometimes on Friday morning I give him an extra kiss knowing the fate of other dogs, and how I was able to save just one. Thank you, and God bless!

Marissa-

I have Frankie. He's TINY....I almost fell over when he got out of the  truck...here I am thinking I'm getting a young lab or something and this little bundle comes out....we are in love with him already. No accidents in the house last night, already had a bath. Loves David and asks to come up on his lap all the time. He  is very inquisitive and smart....he will train easily. We'll fatten him right up. He gets along well with my two big girls. He's just gorgeous.

Jen

Hi Marissa -

Here is pics of Danny. He is such a lovey - just wants to be part of the family. He was a mess when we
got him but his tummy is getting better by the day. My husband has him a devils and mets fan already - see the picture with the collar.

He is a favorite among all our friends - we got him the same day we hosted a luau party and he fit right in, being passed from lap to lap. It is so sad that all he wants is to be loved. He will chose a snuggle over food any day (although food definately comes next).

Thanks for all you do for these lost souls...it's so true - you make a difference to that one animal and that means the world to them.

Hi Marissa,

I just wanted to send you an updated photo of Chala. She is such a sweet dog. Everyone loves her. My great dane puppy is especially in love with her. They play all day long.  She is a typical healthy puppy and heartworm negative.  She loves dogs and people of all ages. What a nice girl. It's hard to imagine she would have been put to sleep because they thought she was ugly and unadoptable. She is anything but that. In fact people always ask me about adopting her. My original plan was to fix her up and adopt her out but I don't know if I can take her away from my dane. They are best friends. We will see... Thanks so much. Keep up the good work!  She is having the time of her life here.
Amanda

Hey Marissa,

I just wanted to say Thank You so much for Susie & all the dogs lives you have saved.  We are having a BLAST with Susie!  She is just adorable, we went to a bar-b-que today and she was totally the life of the party, nobody could believe she was a rescue dog and was so loving & gentle!  Of course I told everyone to go to your website helpsaveone.org  :)

She is such a good dog, yesterday when you guys left the welcome center, we slowly got Susie to walk over to the car, and by slowly I mean crazy slow!  She was so scared, we carried her for part of the way,  and carried her into the car and cuddled all the way home.  We stopped at my parents house in Maine which is ontop of a mountain with 100 acres or so of land overlooking the White Mountains and Susie just came alive.  Tonight she went outside with us and watched the sunset over the White Mountains & curled up in my lap & gave me a great big dog kiss with a look on her face that said: "Thanks Everyone... I'm finally home, Please tell Marissa & everyone who helped save me from the gassing chamber how much I truly appreciate this second chance!"

We would love to send update to the lady that was so determined to save Susie from her horrible fate at the shelter.  & If you have the original photo of Susie at the shelter we would LOVE that!

Thank you So much for everything, you are such a blessing!  I hope you continue to save these beautiful dogs, & don't get discouraged by things people say or the financial burden of saving these dogs, I know everything is going to work out for you because you are doing the right thing!  Thank you again & Susie says Thank You for saving her life!

-Ashley & Tim

Hi Marissa,

We just wanted to send you a quick update and let you know that Susie (now Kenzie), is doing great!  We are so greatful for your organization and all the hard work you do, Kenzie means the world to us and we're so greatful that we were given the oppertunity to have her join our family!!! She is the sweetest & most loving dog!  Thank you for all your hard work & long hours you put in to save these dogs!!!

-Ashley

*Kenzie & all of us say THANK YOU to everyone at HelpSaveOne.org for not letting her go to the gassing chamber!

Hi Guys!!

Our lovely pup came up last week, she walked off transport and our jaws hit the floor. Her picture made her look like an 80 pound dog... she's barely 20. We were so surprised, but it doesn't matter, she's amazing. She is housebroken, knows how to sit, give paw, lay down, sing (she goes aroo roo rooooo roo roo when you sing), and walks perfectly on leash. When she came off transport, she was a grayish color, but when we gave her a bath it turns out she's white! She's definitely a husky mix of some sort, we're not sure what what though. We brought her to the vet a few days ago, right after she arrived, and our vet was very, very surprised how healthy she is, considering where she came from. She has no worms, is heartworm negative, no sicknesses of any kind except for being about 15 pounds underweight (which is easy enough to fix). Oh, also, she's already spayed! I absolutely love her, we both do. I can't imagine the type of monster that would dump her at a shelter, she is perfect. The process was so easy, and I can't stop talking about your organization to everyone I know. We will definitely adopt again, thank you for saving our baby!! I attached a picture of her, we've named her Fennore. It means white ghost in Gaelic, we think it fits!

Love always,
Chris

Hello Marissa,

It has been three weeks since Shelly is with us.

As I am writing to you she is snoring out loud under my desk.  I put that little rug there for her because she cannot be apart from me further than a few feet.  She bonded with me instantly. The third day after her arrival I knew that she will stay with us forever and that the rest are just small details I have to work on.

Shelley is a very smart, quick learner and eager to please. She is so affectionate and so thirsty of love...My God when I took her for the first time into my arms I thought she is going to pass out from happiness!  I couldn't put her back on her feet again - she just wanted to be held more.

Shelley and Nonie get along very well.  Every new day I see them bonding more.  They are respectful of each other and they enjoy our long morning and evening walks.  There are a lot of dogs in our neighborhood, so life is very interesting.  Some dogs girls do not like, some they ignore and with some they play. Shelley loves to play & run with my neighbor's dog Scarlet - and she runs like a lightning! It is such a pleasure to watch her.

Regarding Shelley's health in short everything is fine.  She is heartworm negative, free of parasites & up to date with all vaccines.  As you might know she is blind on her right eye but the eye is in a good condition so I will leave it there.  I have scheduled her for spaying on Sept.4th.  I can not wait to get over with it and to have her back home safe and forever.

Dear Marissa I want to thank you and all volunteers for everything you are doing for dogs.  Thank you all for saving Shelly's life.  You guys did the hardest & most important part - the rest is on me.  I will give Shelley a good and happy life and a LOT of LOVE she deserves.

Warm Regards,

Zana

Hello Marissa,

I adopted Snow in the beginning of July.  Her new name is "Abbey".  It has been over a month that we got Abbey.  We love her sooo...much.  She fits perfectly in our family.  She loves playing with the kids and we take her everywhere.  She is so beautiful and I love getting her puppy kisses.  As you can see from the pictures she is growing nicely.  I know I couldn't thank you enough when we recieved her, but I truly want you and your crew to know, you have given us a gift of a precious puppy, that is truly part of our family.  Thank-you for being such special people and dedicating yourself to rescuing these dogs.

Love, Christine

Hi Marissa,

It's Janeen from NJ. I adopted Hailey. I'm sorry it took so long for me to email. I've been trying to get pics to download onto my computer but they wont. Hailey and my uncle bonded instantly! She is such a great dog and so loving for such a poor life. She has an appointment Friday at the vet. I thank you so much for all you do! I'll send some pic as soon as I can, and I'm sure you'll be hearing from me soon about taking in a few more cuties.

Thanks again, Janeen

Hey Marissa,

It looks like much is going on!

With that being said my puppy- Walker was seen at the vet on Saturday- and not only were we told by everyone there how beautiful he is- I was told he is in GREAT health- no fleas- though we did re treat him for worms just in case his last treatment didn’t work. He is going to be 12 weeks this week and can be neutered soon! His next visit is in a month for rabies and to check for worms and stuff. He’s great!! The vet was very surprised hearing where he came from how well he was!!

Also I have recommended your place to a few people now- one I will have look at the puppies available tomorrow and one was at the vet and I told them where Walker came from and gave them your web address to check it out and  think they may be getting a dog!!

Let’s get as many saved as we can!!

Melissa

Hi Marissa,

Real quick wanted to update you!! Colin, well now his name is Tipper, has been doing good.  He arrived a little dirty, so I immediately gave him a bath.  Actually he found the pool himself and went right in!!! My little pomeranian never goes near it! He had the biggest smile on his face when he went in the backyard, and rolled around in the sun and grass.  Anyway, he has been eating well, and chewing on dog toys, and loves loves loves my puppy!!!  He is VERY scared of the leash, so I didn't bother with a walk today, that is something I will work on in the next couple weeks.  He also is a little fearful of humans, so our relationship will have to develp over time.  All in all, coming from a shelter and a long trip, I think he is remarkable.  He is the cutest little thing!! I'm so in love with my two boys!! I just can't believe this little pup almost was killed, and it breaks my heart for the ones that did.  I wish I could save them alllll lll!! Anyway, here is a pic for now, and more to follow!  Thank you again!

~Heather

Hey Marissa,

I sent you a pic... My Timmy and Van, chilling out in NJ, They are the SWEETEST!!  I cannot believe the horror they would have endured had they not been saved!! They are gonna be spoiled now!  They had Boneless chicken for dinner, and Van couldnt stop kissing me!  Timmy is still scared, but he does wag his tail a lot, and he fell asleep in my arms in the rocking chair last nite!!  He is such a sweet baby!  Im keeping his name, Marissa, it fits him!   Thanks SO much!!  Im in love with them!!

Sharon

Hi Marissa

I just wanted to give you an update on how Faith is doing. We renamed him Teddy because he is just like a cuddly lovable teddy bear. He is doing awesome. He loves to be with us every second right now. Inside and out. : ) He is doing really well with a leash sticking right by our sides. He's a little shy with the boys but we are working with them and him and I don't think that will take long because his tail wags every time he sees them. He doesn't seem to like the neighbors cats much but that will just mean our birds at the feeders will get a little more to eat. We have an appointment with the local vet for the beginning of next week. I want to thank you so much for helping to bring him into our lives. He is an awesome dog!!

Cindy

Hi Marissa,

I just wanted to give you an update on Egore.  He is absolutely fabulous.  This is our second rescue dog and we have not regretted one moment that we adopted them  Egore absolutely adores his "sister" Rachel and they play together all the time.  The cats aren't too happy about another dog but since Egore is pretty mellow and smaller than they are they gang up on him to keep him in line.  Egore fit right into our family.  We will be looking for another family member soon and will definitely adopt from NC.  If we can help in any way please email or call.

Hi Marissa,

So I've found not only a new owner but a rehabilitator for Lucky. She lives in Deerfield, NH on 6+ acres of land. She is expereinced with unsocialized and frightened dogs and is willing to give Lucky the time, energy and love and care he needs.
I've attached a picture of Lucky that was taken yesterday. Even a little bit goes a long way..I thought it would be a nice picture to place next to his old one on the webpage, just so people can see what a little TLC means to a dog.

This is Lucky, who was named Frightened, when he was in the shelter. Look at the difference!!

Hey Marissa,

We are Oscar's new family and he is a lovebug. He thinks he is a lap dog. He is hesitant about going into different rooms in the house, and is refusing to go up or down the stairs. It's all still new to him too. The kids love him, although I must say he is kind of a "mommy's dog." He went to the groomer today, got a bath and a shave. They told me how sweet he was and how lucky we were to get him.

Thanks again

Hi Marissa,

I just wanted to say Thank you for Laverne - now re-named "Brianna". She is adjusting so well, that you would hardly never know she wasn't part of our family! Our four children love her, and she is getting devoted to them.

Once again, I just wanted to say thank you for posting and posting and re-posting on craigslist! Please don't get discouraged, I have to tell you, it was worth our wait!

Hi Meg,

Please let your brother know that the little puppy is doing well here. It seems she was his favorite and he was going to miss her. Her name is Lexxi now and she is making her way with her new brother and sister, Sampson and Daisy. Daisy is more tolerant than Sam, but Lexxi seems to understand her place in the pecking order. Also please keep in mind that if you do come across any smaller breed mixes - I do have a sister in law looking for a new dog. I have attached a few photos for your brother's and your viewing pleasure.

Hi Marissa and Rhonda:

I just wanted to let both of you know that Lucky (f/k/a Boyd) is doing well. He loves his new home and has adapted quickly to a routine. He has even stolen all of Rex's bed. Rex is our 11 month old 95 pound Roti/Shepard. He loves to go for walks and car rides. He met his doctor yesterday and was given a relatively clean bill of health.

I am enclosing a couple of pictures so you can see how happy he is.

Thank you so much.

Hey Guys!

Good news!!! Rusty is FABULOUS! He continued to get better every day this weekend. He has a great appetite and loves his walks. He is chasing the cats ragged and just making his presence known. Bosco is adapting well. It is not easy for him to share the abundance of love and affection that used to be all his own, but I think he is realizing that we have enough love for both. Again, I will send a new pic but I want it to be after we have fattened him up a bit. My only regret is that I was only able to save one. I checked out the dogs in danger site and just cried…wish I could save more.

Thanks for everything!

Hi Marissa,

I wanted to give you an update on Shasta (now named Sadie).  She is an absolute angel, is so smart and sweet, and is just delightful.  Suffice it to say, we LOVE her!!!  It is so funny to watch her and my puppy, Harley, play.  They are also very sweet together.  This was a perfect match and I want to thank you soooooo much for making this possible!!!  You are not only making a huge difference in the lives of the animals you help, but the people's lives they touch as well.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
